The Breaking Point of Love or The Zillionaire’s Abandoned Wife Chapter 688
After they finished work, it was already getting dark. Quincy suggested they go out for a meal together.
Trevor said, “Sorry, I have something to take care of. Let’s do dinner another time.”
Quincy chuckled. “Don’t tell me you’re going to have dinner with Ms. Locket?”
Trevor paused for a moment but didn’t deny it.
That brief silence was answer enough. Quincy immediately understood. “I heard Ms. Locket recovered a few days ago. You’re still treating her like a treasure? Do you really need to accompany her for meals every day—”
Halfway through, his gaze flicked toward Celeste, and he abruptly stopped. Then he added quickly, “Sorry, I mean… because you two—”
He knew about Celeste and Trevor. But over the past few days, they had acted nothing like former lovers—just business partners, calm and distant.
Sometimes, he genuinely forgot there had ever been anything between them.
Celeste could tell Quincy meant no harm. She understood what he was trying to say.
Her expression didn’t change. “It’s fine.”
Kieran found the exchange a little odd. He didn’t understand why Quincy had suddenly apologized to Celeste, but since it didn’t seem like a big issue, he let it go.
The room fell quiet.
Trevor was the one who broke the silence.
Without any change in expression, he looked at Celeste. “We’ll get together next time. I’m heading off.”
Celeste gave a small nod. Quincy remained seated, saying nothing.
Watching them, no one would have guessed they had once been a couple.
After Trevor left, Quincy and the others went ahead with dinner. By the time they finished, it wasn’t even eight.
Work hadn’t been too busy lately. As they walked outside, Kieran said, “It’s still early. Want to take a walk? Help with digestion?”
Celeste paused, thinking about how to respond, but Kieran spoke again.
“This morning, I happened to overhear part of what Mr. Yoder said while you were on the phone. You went to the courthouse today to file for divorce again, didn’t you?”
Celeste paused briefly, then nodded. “Mm.”
Kieran had worked with her at YodaVision for quite some time. He knew that she and her soon-to-be ex-husband had gone through the divorce process more than once, only for it to fall through each time.
He couldn’t help asking, “This time… will you really get divorced?”
Celeste said, “Unless something unexpected happens, yes.”
“So before this, it didn’t go through because of unexpected circumstances?”
If that were the only reason, they wouldn’t have stayed married this long.
Kieran’s tone was gentle, without pressure. He was simply trying to understand.
Celeste replied calmly, “There were unexpected factors… and other reasons.”
Kieran was curious about those “other reasons,” but he knew better than to press.
He nodded. “Then I’ll ask you again later. If you really do get divorced… will you tell me?”
There was nothing wrong with telling him.
But—
Celeste looked at him, as if about to say something.
Kieran smiled faintly. “I know what you’re going to say. Don’t try to persuade me—you won’t succeed.”
Celeste fell silent.
