Rising from the Ashes (Andrew and Lauren) Chapter 3146
Ramon fell silent for a moment, then strode away to organize the city’s defenses. As he left, his voice drifted back faintly.
“If we can’t hold it, I won’t be as stubborn as you. As long as you’re alive, there’s still a chance to recover. Once you’re dead, that’s it—the end.”
Almost as soon as his words faded, a massive artillery shell streaked across the sky and slammed into Throne City. Explosions erupted one after another as a new wave of assault began.
Alonzo lay half-sprawled on the ground, staring up at the artillery fire shrieking through the air, and let out a bitter laugh.
He knew Andrew would never let this opportunity slip by.
Abyss City’s forces were far from exhausted, and their true trump card—the Highland Tribe warriors—had not even entered the battlefield yet. As a veteran powerhouse of the Ludendorff family, Alonzo could see the situation with painful clarity. Andrew had been waiting for this exact moment all along.
But seeing clearly did not mean having a solution.
The cruelty of this world lay precisely in that truth: even if you were intelligent, cautious, and thoroughly prepared, you could still be driven toward an inevitable end.
A thunderous roar suddenly rose from Throne City’s south gate. The ground shook violently, as if the entire city were on the verge of collapsing. An officer rushed over, his face pale with panic.
“Lord Alonzo! Andrew of Abyss City has launched another attack. This time… it’s the Highland Tribe warriors!”
Alonzo’s face twitched as he forced himself upright. “Then we’ll fight these savages to the death! Go—concentrate all our forces at the gate. I want Andrew to bleed for every inch he takes!”
The officer let out a bitter laugh. “Sir, it’s no use. The Highland Tribe warriors aren’t focusing on a single point. Th-they’re launching an all-around assault. They’re attacking every section of the wall.”
Alonzo sucked in a sharp breath. Darkness seemed to close in around him, as though the sky itself were collapsing.
Throne City was the greatest city in the Wastelands. If the Highland Tribe warriors were assaulting it from all directions, completely disregarding the walls, then there was only one explanation.
These warriors were the elite of the elite.
Every single one of them was comparable to a battle master.
So what was left to defend?
Nothing at all.
After taking a deep breath, Alonzo made his final decision. “Then we fight to the last breath. Death before surrender!”
At that moment, another subordinate rushed in, his face filled with fury and despair. “Sir, Lord Ramon has withdrawn his forces from the north gate.”
Alonzo was not surprised. Or rather, Ramon had already shown him this ending long ago, so it felt anything but sudden.
“So be it,” Alonzo said quietly. “From another perspective, this way, at least, the Ludendorff family’s bloodline can be preserved.”
Shaking his head with a long sigh, Alonzo picked up his greatsword, gathered what remained of his men, and chose to stand—or fall—together with Throne City.
Outside the city, roughly twenty miles away, Andrew stood with one hand resting on his sword, calmly watching as swarms of Highland Tribe warriors scaled Throne City’s walls. His expression remained composed as he issued his command.
“Mr. Fernsby, Knox, Juno, Petra—you’re up as well.”
The four powerful warriors acknowledged the order and immediately launched their assault on Throne City’s main gate.
Othniel shot into the air, his entire body wrapped in crimson lightning. With a furious roar, his cavalry saber erupted with towering red radiance and crashed down on the south gate. After a brief tearing sound, the gate collapsed with a thunderous explosion.
Andrew raised his hand again. Another battalion—separate from the Highland Tribe, yet equally spirited and battle-ready—surged forward in the final assault. They entered Throne City almost effortlessly, slaughtering the Ludendorff family’s fighters wherever they went.
Even from outside the city, Andrew could see several towering structures within Throne City collapse one after another. Atop the central throne hall, the Ludendorff family’s banner burst into roaring flames before burning away to nothing.
Screams echoed endlessly through the city.
