Rising from the Ashes (Andrew and Lauren) Chapter 3140
“Attack!” Vance roared.
The cavalry under his command surged forward in a violent charge, launching a ferocious assault on another gate of the Ludendorff family. Throne City had four main gates. Two had already been completely sealed for defense, leaving only the south and the north. At that moment, the south gate was under heavy siege, battered by the forces from Abyss City. Without hesitation, Vance chose the north gate.
His timing was flawless. Most of Throne City’s forces had already been deployed to the south. Although defenders still remained at the north gate, the pressure there was far lighter, and its defenses were visibly weaker. Throne City’s strength was limited, after all, and the north gate was instantly pushed into a precarious position.
Vance’s hand trembled slightly as he gripped his blade—not from fear, but excitement.
Iridessa had already turned into a blur, carving a bloody path as she raced up the city walls. Her superior stealth techniques transformed her into a living Grim Reaper. Wherever she passed, the garrison soldiers didn’t even have time to react before their heads fell to the ground.
Iridessa was only slightly weaker than Vance himself. The siblings were two of Eastonia’s most promising future elites, raised with the finest training and cultivation. Iridessa, in particular, had mastered the arts of stealth, making her exceptional at assassination, concealment, disguise, and intelligence gathering.
The Ludendorff family’s experts stationed at the north gate quickly realized what was happening. Someone was immediately sent to report the situation and request Alonzo’s support.
At the same time, they engaged Iridessa directly, attempting to hold her back.
When the gate below began to show clear signs of collapse, Vance knew the moment had come. He leapt from his war chariot, his sword cutting a terrifying arc of killing intent through the air. Crescent-shaped blade energy spun and howled as it slammed into the gate.
At last, the gate forged from pure steel could no longer withstand the assault. It collapsed with a thunderous crash.
Vance pointed his long blade forward and growled, “Charge into the city! Victory is ours!”
At Throne City’s south gate, Alonzo was being driven to the brink by Nyx. Her strength had grown rapidly of late, and with her unique combat specialty, even most martial gods would struggle against her in a one-on-one fight.
Even so, Alonzo was the Ludendorff family’s second-in-command. In terms of martial prowess, he was not much weaker than Ramon. The battle armor covering his body flared with layers of energy light, and his aura surged dramatically. His heavy sword sealed off attacks from every direction.
Nyx had no intention of engaging him head-on. She retreated in a blur, leaving behind multiple afterimages before landing atop the city wall.
“Lord Alonzo, the north gate has been breached!”
Before Alonzo could even catch his breath, a subordinate rushed over, shouting urgently, “It’s the Coven of Heavenly Radiance! Their leader is Prince Vance Titoria of Eastonia!”
Beneath his armor, Alonzo’s face turned stiff and emotionless. The heavy sword in his hand rose in a flash. With a single swift motion, the subordinate’s head was severed.
“Spreading panic within our ranks deserves death,” Alonzo spat.
He then summoned a military officer and barked, “Proceed according to plan. Abandon the north gate and withdraw to the second line of defense. Also, drive out half the slaves and send them to engage the Coven of Heavenly Radiance directly.”
The officer’s entire body shook. “Sir, half the slaves would be thirty thousand people. Their combat strength is extremely low. If they face the Coven of Heavenly Radiance, I’m afraid they’ll all be slaughtered—”
Alonzo kicked the officer of the Black Knight Legion in the head and roared, “Carry out my orders! Or would you rather lose your head as well?”
The officer scrambled to his feet. “Yes, sir!”
At that moment, the sound of massive war drums echoed across the plains outside the city. Nyx was the first to leap down from the wall. One by one, the Abyss City warriors also turned away, abandoning the siege.
Alonzo frowned and looked down from the wall. The Abyss City army, which had been advancing like an unstoppable tide just moments before, had retreated just as suddenly.
He suspected nothing.
Without hesitation, he ordered someone to take over his position. Gripping his heavy sword, he personally charged toward the north gate. Whatever schemes the Abyss City forces were plotting no longer mattered. Right now, his priority was to drive out and annihilate the Coven of Heavenly Radiance that had broken through the north gate.
For these bandits who struck from behind to exploit the chaos, Alonzo’s hatred had reached its peak.
Outside Throne City, the first wave of Andrew’s siege forces had completely withdrawn.
