    Chapter 2460

    Boom! A muffled sound echoed.

Tobias’s body trembled violently as blood poured from his seven orifices. In the next instant, he collapsed to the ground, lifeless.

Tobias was dead. With his strength completely drained, he chose to end his life on his own terms, preserving the last shred of his dignity.

The sight stunned the assassins—men accustomed to walking the fine line between life and death.

Suicide, just like that? It wasn’t something ordinary people could do.

Even insects struggle to survive. How much more so a man?

    “This guy was ruthless.”

The leader of the assassins frowned, looking visibly displeased.

The general wanted Tobias alive. With his death, there would be no explaining this.

Had he known it would turn out like this, he would have personally stepped in and finished the job first.

“What now, boss?” one of his men asked.

“Clean up the scene and take the body back.”

Leaving those instructions behind, the assassin leader hoisted Tobias’s corpse onto his shoulder, got into a vehicle, and drove away.

Meanwhile, inside a lavish private estate…

Cardinal Dragon Marshal and the city guard commander sat drinking tea, waiting for an update.

“General, it’s been a while. Still no word from your men? They didn’t fail, did they?” the city guard commander asked.

“Impossible,” Cardinal Dragon Marshal dismissed the idea outright. “The assassins I raised are the best of the best. Some of them are martial arts masters. Taking down two small-time lackeys is child’s play for them.”

These elite killers rarely needed to use their full strength. Whenever they were sent on a mission, they never failed.

“Since you’re so confident, I’ll take your word for it.” The city guard commander exhaled in relief.

If Tobias escaped, it would be a serious problem.

“You don’t have to worry about Tobias—he won’t escape,” Cardinal Dragon Marshal assured him. “The real question is whether you can erase all traces of what happened.”

“General, the law enforcement team in West Lucozia King’s City is filled with our own people. We’ve already instructed them—what happened tonight will never be leaked. By morning, Tobias will have ‘vanished’ from the world. Even if people look for him, they won’t find a single clue.” The city guard commander smirked confidently.

“Good.” Cardinal Dragon Marshal nodded in satisfaction. “I’ll handle the interrogation. You’ll take care of the cover-up. We each have our roles to play.”

“To a successful partnership.” The city guard commander raised his tea cup in a toast and downed it in one gulp.

Just then, a knock sounded at the door.

“Come in,” Cardinal Dragon Marshal called out.

    The door swung open.

The assassin leader entered first, followed by two subordinates carrying a stretcher.

On it lay a body covered in white cloth.

“How did it go? Did you capture him?” Cardinal Dragon Marshal asked calmly.

“General, the target committed suicide. We only brought back his corpse,” the assassin leader reported, his voice steady and direct.

    “What?! He’s dead?”

Cardinal Dragon Marshal shot up from his seat, his face twisting in fury. “What the hell did you idiots do? Didn’t I tell you to bring him back alive? And now you’ve handed me a corpse?!”

“My failure is inexcusable. I accept whatever punishment you see fit, General!” The assassin leader immediately dropped to his knees in submission.

“Useless fool! I should kill you myself!”

Cardinal Dragon Marshal drew his sword, ready to strike him down.

But the city guard commander quickly stepped in, blocking the attack.

“General, please calm down,” he urged. “No one expected Tobias to take his own life. What’s done is done. Punishing your men won’t change anything. Instead, we should focus on the next steps.”

    Snort!

Cardinal Dragon Marshal sheathed his sword, his face ice-cold.

“You’ll be spared the death penalty, but you won’t escape punishment. Go receive eighty strikes of the military baton.”

“Thank you, General, for your mercy!”

The assassin leader bowed deeply in gratitude.

He knew he’d be bedridden for at least half a month after the beating, but it was still better than losing his head.

    “Wait.”

Just as the assassin leader turned to leave, Cardinal Dragon Marshal stopped him.

“I need to know—were there any survivors? And did you clean up the scene properly?”

“General, there were no survivors. Our men are handling the cleanup as we speak,” the assassin leader responded, keeping his head lowered.

“Make sure there are no traces left behind. If anything is found, you’ll answer to me,” Cardinal Dragon Marshal warned.

“Yes, General.” The assassin leader bowed and left.

The body on the stretcher lay still in the middle of the room.

Cardinal Dragon Marshal stepped forward, pulled back the white cloth, and took a good look.

Tobias’s lifeless face was contorted, frozen in a mix of defiance and suffering. Blood had streamed from his eyes, nose, and mouth, and even in death, a menacing aura clung to him.

“Tobias… You thought you were untouchable?” Cardinal Dragon Marshal sneered. “What happened to all that arrogance? You dared to defy me—this is what you get.”

With that, he suddenly drew his sword and sliced off Tobias’s head, sending it rolling across the floor like a kicked ball.

Behind him, the city guard commander’s expression briefly flickered with discomfort, but he quickly masked it.

Tobias’s suicide had thrown their entire plan into chaos.

They had expected to extract valuable information from him. Now, he was dead, and instead of gaining leverage, they were left with an even bigger mess to clean up.

But what was done was done.

As long as they erased all evidence, there would be no consequences. Or so they believed.
