Chapter 2458
“Tobias, trust me, the waters in West Lucozia run too deep. You can’t control this. Leave while you can!”
Stephan’s voice was filled with urgency as he watched Tobias silently weigh his options. Being former comrades-in-arms, he couldn’t bear to see Tobias meet a grim fate.
“You make a good point,” Tobias admitted after a pause. “It’s not brute force I’m worried about; it’s the underhanded moves I can’t anticipate.”
After a moment’s hesitation, Tobias finally nodded. “Stephan, take me back to the hotel. I’ll pack my things.”
“That’s more like it!” Stephan sighed in relief. “Remember the saying: ‘If you keep the green mountains, you’ll never run out of firewood.’ Your safety matters most.”
“Thank you, Stephan. If we get the chance, I owe you a drink.” Tobias offered a faint smile, realizing how close he’d come to ignoring his instincts. Once trouble struck, regret would mean nothing.
Back at the hotel, Tobias packed quickly and joined Stephan in his car. As they headed toward the airport, the tension in the air lifted slightly, and the two exchanged lighthearted banter.
But just as they reached a fork in the road, disaster struck.
A large truck barreled through a red light, speeding straight toward them.
The driver instinctively jerked the wheel, sending the jeep careening. It overturned violently, rolling multiple times before crashing through the guardrail and landing in a roadside ditch.
Inside, the driver was knocked unconscious, and both Tobias and Stephan suffered serious injuries. Luckily, their strong physiques spared them from the worst.
“Bang!”
Stephan kicked open the mangled door and crawled out, bruised but conscious.
“Damn it…” he muttered, but his words caught in his throat as three figures emerged from the truck.
The men were dressed head to toe in black, masks concealing their faces. Under the dim streetlights, their shadows stretched ominously, exuding danger.
Tobias climbed out of the wreckage, his expression dark as he locked eyes with the approaching men. A chill ran down his spine.
“Stephan, it looks like we’ve been targeted,” he muttered grimly.
“This isn’t just an accident.” Stephan’s voice was tense, his hand instinctively reaching for the dagger at his waist.
The realization hit them both at once: this was a premeditated ambush.
“So they’re here to finish the job,” Tobias said, shrugging off his coat to reveal his muscular frame. His movements were calm, but his eyes blazed with determination.
“Run to the airport, Tobias. I’ll hold them off!” Stephan barked, readying his blade.
“What kind of brother abandons his comrade to save his own skin?” Tobias shot back, his voice sharp. “Besides, we’re not helpless. If we fight together, we might just take them down.”
Stephan nodded, a fierce grin breaking across his face. “It’s been years since we fought side by side. Let’s make it count.”
The three masked men drew their blades as they closed the distance, their movements fluid and menacing.
“Let’s take them!” Tobias shouted.
In life-or-death combat, courage often makes the difference. Both men charged forward, meeting their attackers head-on.
Stephan, a mountain of a man, fought with brute strength, swinging his blade with relentless force. Tobias, agile and precise, struck with swift and calculated blows.
Their teamwork was seamless, a testament to years of training and trust. Though the assassins were skilled—each near-master level—the two comrades held their ground.
The battle was brutal. Within minutes, all five combatants were bleeding and battered.
Stephan took three stabs to his side, blood soaking his clothes, but his sheer fury kept him going. Tobias sustained a deep slash across his chest, yet he fought on, his resolve unshaken.
Fueled by adrenaline and survival instincts, the pair grew fiercer with every passing second.
The assassins, despite their superior training, began to falter. Tobias and Stephan’s fearless fighting style threw them off, disrupting their rhythm.
“This isn’t what we were told about these two!” one of the assassins growled, frustration creeping into his voice.
“Kill them! No mistakes!”
The attackers pressed harder, but Stephan fought like a demon unleashed, hacking wildly with an intensity that unnerved even the most seasoned killer.
Meanwhile, Tobias remained eerily composed, exploiting openings and landing devastating strikes. His calm demeanor and deadly precision turned the tide of the battle.
Realizing they were losing control, the assassins launched a desperate, all-out assault.
And so, the blood-soaked clash escalated into a fight where the price of every move was life or death.
