Chapter 2408
“Someone’s coming. You should leave now,” Dustin said, his sharp senses catching the faint sound of footsteps outside the door.
The footsteps were light, the breathing controlled. This wasn’t just anyone—it was a skilled individual.
“Understood,” Grace nodded, quickly gathering the Dracan essences before vanishing through the window, leaving no trace.
Before three seconds had passed, a knock echoed on the door.
“Who’s there?” Dustin asked, his voice calm but alert.
“It’s me, Tyson,” a familiar voice replied from outside.
Dustin walked over and opened the door, his lips curling into a smile. “Ah, Mr. Houle. Please, come in.”
For Tyson to visit at this hour, it likely meant the Pantheon was preparing to act.
“Mr. Rhys, congratulations on your victory!” Tyson began warmly as he entered. “I watched your match today—it was incredible! Beating Glenn like that was no small feat. I knew I wasn’t wrong about you!”
“Thank you, but I have to credit the strengthening potion you provided, Mr. Houle. Without it, I wouldn’t have stood a chance against Glenn,” Dustin replied with feigned humility.
“Hahaha… So, you finally see the perks of joining the Pantheon, don’t you?” Tyson chuckled. “With our support, fame is effortless! Keep working for the Pantheon, and wealth and glory will follow you for the rest of your life.”
“Of course,” Dustin responded with a polite smile.
Tyson waved off the formalities, closing the doors and windows before activating a soundproof barrier. His tone turned serious. “Let’s get to business. I came to deliver a mission. The Lord God King has decided on a surprise attack on Sacred Wyrm Summit tonight. You’ve been appointed captain of the team tasked with infiltrating the forbidden area to retrieve a treasure.”
Given Dustin’s strength, the role of captain was fitting.
“Infiltrate the Sacred Wyrm Summit’s forbidden area?” Dustin’s brows knitted slightly. “I’ve heard it’s heavily guarded and filled with dangers. I’m not sure I’m up for it.”
“Don’t worry,” Tyson reassured him. “You won’t be alone. Two other elite teams will work alongside yours. Your job is to handle the masters inside the forbidden area. We’ll take care of those outside. Your safety is guaranteed.”
“If that’s the case, I’m on board. But what’s this treasure we’re after?” Dustin asked, curiosity piqued.
“You’ll know once you’re inside,” Tyson said with a mysterious smile.
“You can’t tell me now?” Dustin feigned dissatisfaction.
“It’s not that I don’t want to; I simply don’t know. The Lord God King has orchestrated everything. Our job is to follow orders without question. I hope you understand, Mr. Rhys,” Tyson explained.
“Understood. I’ll follow orders,” Dustin nodded.
“Great. It’s getting late. Let’s head out and introduce you to your team,” Tyson said, leading the way.
“After you, Mr. Houle,” Dustin replied courteously.
The two slipped into the night like shadows, their movements swift and silent. Within ten minutes, they arrived at a secluded courtyard—the Pantheon’s usual gathering spot.
Inside the meeting room, Dustin saw over a dozen people, many of whom he recognized. Among them were Lennox Willis, the disheveled wine fairy, and Damien Holmes, one of the notorious Heaven and Earth duo. Their presence indicated this mission was no trivial matter.
Damien, who had clashed with Dustin before, shot him a wary glance but remained silent.
Tyson clapped his hands to gather everyone’s attention. “Everyone, listen up. This is Dustin Rhys. Some of you may already know him. As of tonight, he’s your captain. You will follow his commands during the mission. Understood?”
Before anyone could respond, a young man with dreadlocks scoffed. “With all due respect, Mr. Houle, is this a joke? How can some kid who barely looks grown lead us? Seniors like Holmes or Willis should be the ones in charge!”
The room fell silent as Damien Holmes’ expression darkened. Without hesitation, he slapped the young man across the face. “Idiot! Shut your mouth!”
The young man clutched his face, bewildered. “Senior Holmes, why did you hit me? I was just trying to—”
“You’re blind as a bat!” Damien barked, spitting in fury. “This is Dustin Rhys—the champion of today’s martial arts competition! A master-level warrior! If he isn’t qualified to lead, who is?”
Damien’s anger stemmed not only from the insult but from fear. He had watched Dustin’s matches and was shocked by his strength. The last thing he wanted was to provoke him further.
Realization dawned on the young man, and his face turned pale. “He’s Dustin Rhys?” he stammered, his legs trembling. He hadn’t seen the competition but had heard of Dustin’s exploits. Now, he regretted his rash words.
“Apologies, Captain Rhys! I spoke out of turn,” the young man said hastily, his tone filled with regret.
Tyson smirked but said nothing, watching as the group adjusted to their new leader.
