Chapter 2406
“Me?” Dustin was momentarily stunned by the Arion’s suggestion, and he quickly waved his hands in protest. “Elder, please don’t joke. How could I guard the dragon vein? Someone else would be a better choice.”
The thought alone was overwhelming. Guarding the dragon vein wasn’t like watching over a house; a single mistake could endanger not just himself but the entire Sacred Wyrm Summit and possibly all of Dragonmarsh. The weight of such a responsibility was far too great for him to accept.
“Don’t be so quick to refuse,” Arion Foyer replied with a calm smile. “Guarding the dragon vein has its rewards. The dragon vein is spiritual. If you connect with it, your cultivation could soar, and your lifespan would extend greatly. With the luck of the dragon vein, you would be unbeatable—no one could stand in your way.”
He wasn’t exaggerating. Becoming the dragon vein’s guardian would grant a resonance with heaven and earth itself—what people call the land fairyland.
If Alaric Drakon had fought Seth Hughes in a life-and-death battle a year ago near the Dragon Guarding Pavilion, the outcome might have been completely different.
“Elder, with all due respect, I prefer a quiet life. I don’t think I can handle such a huge responsibility. The rapid cultivation and extended lifespan just aren’t that tempting to me,” Dustin declined again.
With greater power comes greater responsibility.
Dustin valued his freedom. Accepting the role of guardian would feel like imprisonment, a sacrifice he wasn’t ready to make.
“It’s fine. If you truly aren’t interested, I won’t push you. But if you ever change your mind, you’re welcome to find me,” Arion Foyer assured, still smiling.
Though the martial arts competition was intended to select a dragon vein guardian, ultimately, this role was a matter of personal choice.
Dustin’s refusal didn’t trouble Arion, who knew that some things happen in their own time.
“Thank you for understanding, Elder,” Dustin sighed in relief.
He’d feared Arion might react with anger or demand back the dragon energy orb, but Arion, clearly an enlightened soul, wasn’t about to resort to pressure or bribery.
“Young man, if you’re not busy, stay here tonight. I have some matters to attend to,” Arion said before taking his leave.
“Farewell, Elder!” Dustin bowed respectfully.
After Arion left, Dustin felt himself fully relax.
Although Arion had been friendly and relaxed, an invisible pressure hung in the air when Dustin was near him, making even breathing feel cautious.
It was clear that a land immortal like Arion was anything but ordinary.
After gathering the Dracan essences, Dustin took his leave.
He’d already warned Sacred Wyrm Summit, so they would be on alert if the pantheon of gods tried anything. Just to be sure, he decided to check in with Tyson Houle to see if there were other potential threats.
When Dustin returned to the restaurant, he found Grace waiting for him, with a banquet prepared and all his friends gathered: Noemi, Kassidy, Rivka, Halle, Briggs, Sullivan, and more.
Though they hailed from different sects, they had all come to celebrate Dustin’s success.
“Mr. Rhys, congratulations on winning the championship!” Briggs was the first to offer his congratulations.
“Your performance today was astounding. I’m in awe!” Rivka added admiringly.
“Mr. Rhys, I didn’t realize you were this powerful. You’ll be a legend in the martial arts world!” Halle praised with a smile.
“Absolutely! Mr. Rhys is now the undisputed top on the Legendary list. Not even Glenn could best him. Who else can?” Sullivan added, showering him with flattery.
“Thank you all for your kind words,” Dustin said warmly. “Tonight’s on me—please, everyone, eat, drink, and enjoy!”
With that, he welcomed everyone to the table.
“Mr. Rhys, as the martial arts champion and an honored guest of the Celestial Alliance, please don’t forget to look out for us,” Noemi said with a sweet smile, her charm unmistakable.
“Dr. Rhys, would you consider taking on a disciple? I’d love to learn from you!” Kassidy said, more direct, hoping to establish a closer bond.
Both women had spoken to their father, Alloy Marshall, and were aware of Dustin’s true identity. Their father had encouraged them to pursue a strong alliance with him—whatever it might take.
A young man of extraordinary talent and potential was, after all, a match worth securing. Now it was up to them to see if they could tie Dustin to the Celestial Alliance’s cause.
