Married At First Sight Chapter 4511

Romina added, “She just doesn’t like people who seem nice but are actually bad. That’s not ‘looking down on people.’ Besides, I was arguing with River when Bethany wanted me to hold her. That proves she’s got a pure heart. She could tell I’m a good person.”

Donovan smiled. “Alright, alright—you’re a good person, and that little girl isn’t snobby. Got it. But wow, she really stole your heart, didn’t she? You’re so protective of her now.”

Romina said, “You haven’t met her, so you don’t get it. Once you do, you’ll understand why I’m obsessed with her. She’s adorable, like a little fairy, with such delicate features.”

“Sister Seren is gorgeous, and her husband must be good-looking too. I mean, just look at River—annoying as he is, he’s still ridiculously handsome. Their whole family’s got amazing genes, so of course their kids are cute.”

“Sister Seren’s son is another little heartthrob. She said the whole York family is full of lookers—River’s cousins are all attractive too.”

Donovan took out the new clothes Romina had bought him. “One or two sets would’ve been enough, but you went overboard.”

“I gave one set to River,” Romina said offhandedly.

Donovan paused and turned to her. “Wait—what? Did I hear that right? You gave River clothes? He went shopping with you?”

Even if he had, wouldn’t River buy his own stuff? Why was his sister giving him clothes?

Hold on—did Romina even realize what it meant to gift a man clothes? People would definitely get the wrong idea. Could it be that she was starting to catch feelings for him?

“Yeah, he went with me. Said he rarely shops and doesn’t know the area well. So he asked Sister Seren to invite me along. I didn’t have any plans, so I went. That shameless guy—when I asked him to help me try on clothes, he claimed he was doing me a favor and asked for compensation. So I gave him a cheap set.”

Donovan raised a brow. “And you actually gave it to him?”

“It was just one set, only cost a few thousand. The ones I bought for you cost over ten grand—way nicer than his.”

Donovan chuckled.

“What’s that laugh for?” Romina asked, eyeing him. “Don’t get the wrong idea. I’m not into him.”

“Anyway, I have a business reception this Saturday. I’m going to ask Maddox to come with me.”

Romina quickly changed the topic, dragging Maddox into it just to distract her brother from teasing her about River.

She had no romantic interest in River at all. Honestly, the clothes she gave him were just too cheap to bother returning. It was like tossing them to a recycling bin.

Donovan caught on and smoothly picked up the new thread. “Then you should ask Young Master Johnstone out. He’s still single, and you’ve gone on a few dates. I think he likes you.”

The Lafond family was one of the most powerful in Eaglioncile. Romina, as the eldest daughter, was exceptional—smart, beautiful, and capable. Many elite families had tried to win her over, but she always lost interest after a few meetings.

Donovan figured his sister simply didn’t want to get married.

Still, he believed that if she ever met someone she truly liked—someone exceptional—she’d fall in love and settle down. Then Grandpa wouldn’t have to worry about her future anymore.

Donovan figured that when he had the time, he’d go to Wiltspoon himself and look into River’s family background.

If River’s background checked out, maybe he could stir the pot and push these so-called “mortal enemies” toward becoming a couple.

He actually admired River quite a bit.

And he didn’t say anything negative about Romina getting close with River’s cousin’s wife, Seren. Through her, they could learn more about River’s family. But of course, he’d still have to investigate for himself—Seren might be biased and paint River in a perfect light.

“Alright, I’ll message Maddox tomorrow and see if he’s free that night.”

Romina still had Maddox’s contact info, though they hadn’t really stayed in touch. Nothing had progressed romantically between them. Both had demanding schedules and barely had time to talk.

Donovan said, “If something does spark between you two, try giving it a real chance. Marriage needs time and understanding. But don’t drag it out too long—you’re almost thirty. For women, that number feels different. Guys hit their prime at thirty, but people start calling women ‘old’ at that age.”

Romina patted her cheeks. “Brother, do I look like an old lady? I wear pink, and people mistake me for a teenager.”

Donovan replied, “But your age is there, Romina. If you stay single forever, don’t worry—I’ll take care of you for life. And when I’m gone, your nieces and nephews will. But we can’t replace the role of a life partner. That companionship is different.”

“Everyone eventually builds their own little family. We won’t always be by your side. But the one who marries you—that’s the person who’s meant to walk beside you through old age.”

He added gently, “I really do want you to get married, but don’t rush into anything just because you’re getting older. Don’t settle. Marriage is something you never compromise on. If the guy’s not right, don’t do it. You’ve got the freedom not to.”

Romina nodded. “Exactly. I won’t compromise—not in marriage, not in life. Why should I? I was born with everything. I’ve always had what I wanted. Why would I settle now?”

She had the luxury to be choosy, and she knew it.

Donovan didn’t bring up River again.

Romina had clearly made up her mind to give things another try with Maddox. So be it.

The Johnstone family was based in Eaglioncile, and their families already had strong business ties. If Romina and Maddox worked out, she wouldn’t have to move far.

Sure, River was outstanding—but he was from Wiltspoon, and they still didn’t know much about his background or his family’s values.

Still, Donovan wondered—if Romina and Maddox really started dating, would River get jealous?

Would he realize he had feelings for her?

Donovan smiled to himself.

He’d love to see River fall hard—and fight to win Romina over.

“Try these on, Brother. I think I got your size right, but I’m not sure if you’ve gained or lost weight lately,” Romina said.

Donovan checked the size and replied, “I work out every day—I’m not letting myself get fat. My size hasn’t changed.”

He pulled out the clothes, tried one on, and said, “Yeah, it fits. But Romina, don’t buy me any more clothes. I already have too many—my wardrobe’s full.”

Romina smiled. “I don’t have a boyfriend. When I saw Sister Seren shopping, I just bought a few sets for you too. But if I get a boyfriend, you might not even get a single shirt.”

Donovan teased, “So you’re the type who picks love over family. I better enjoy the perks now before someone steals you away. Stock me up while you still care.”

Romina laughed. “I’m joking! You’re my brother—brother and sister for life. But a husband? That’s not guaranteed forever. People fall out of love and divorce all the time.”

To her, sibling bonds were lifelong. Romantic love? Not always.

“It’s late—go upstairs and rest. We both have work tomorrow.”

Romina hummed in agreement, stood up, and went upstairs.

They didn’t talk anymore that night.

Romina didn’t run into River over the next couple of days. She figured he was spending time with his nieces and nephews. She kept seeing updates in Serenity’s friend circle—photos of River with Bethany, carrying her and playing.

Seeing them out and about, Romina felt the itch to take a break too. But she was slammed at work—meetings, documents, everything piling up. She also needed to find time to ask Maddox out for dinner.

Maddox still didn’t have a girlfriend. He had been on a blind date with Romina and seemed to like her, but she hadn’t felt anything, so it never went anywhere.

The weekend came quickly.

On Saturday night, Romina was set to attend a business cocktail party.

Maddox was also invited, so they agreed to go together.

That evening, Maddox arrived at the Lafond family villa.

“Sir, Madam, Young Master Johnstone has arrived,” the butler announced as he led Maddox in.

Romina had already told her parents that Maddox would be picking her up for the event.

“Uncle, Aunt,” Maddox greeted them, holding a gift bag. Even though the families knew each other well, he didn’t want to show up empty-handed as Romina’s date.

Romina had mentioned wanting to try dating him, and Maddox was open to it too. They figured it wouldn’t hurt to test the waters. If things worked out, both families would be thrilled.

“Maddox, welcome. Please sit,” Mrs. Lafond said with a warm smile, standing up to accept the gift.

“You didn’t need to bring anything,” she added. “You’re already doing enough just by coming.”

“It’s just some nutritional supplements,” Maddox replied. “They’re good for your health—just a little something from me.”

Mrs. Lafond’s smile widened. “You’re very thoughtful. Your uncle and I actually take these regularly. They work well.”

“I remembered Romina mentioning that you use them,” Maddox said as he sat down across from them.

Married At First Sight Chapter 4514

Maddox was a year older than Romina—he was thirty now.

As the only son in his family, both his parents and grandparents were constantly urging him to get married. He’d been set up on countless blind dates—he’d probably met every eligible rich girl in Eaglioncile.

But Maddox was swamped with work. He was expected to take over the family business with no one to share the load, leaving him with little time for relationships.

There had been women he liked, and some who liked him back, but he just couldn’t spare the time. Most of those blind dates fizzled out after a dinner or two.

He’d met Romina three months ago.

Of all the dates he’d been on, Romina stood out the most. Not just because their family backgrounds matched, but because she was capable—exactly what he needed.

He didn’t want a delicate socialite who needed constant pampering. He didn’t have the time or patience.

Romina was strong, independent, and sharp, but with a softer side too. They were both busy, so meeting on weekends for a bit of romance was ideal.

“Aunt, is Romina still upstairs?” Maddox asked.

“She’s probably getting dressed and doing her makeup. Sit tight, I’ll go check on her,” Mrs. Lafond said, clearly pleased with Maddox.

She didn’t mind who Romina chose—as long as her daughter was happy.

“No need to rush her,” Maddox said quickly. “We’ve got time before the banquet starts.”

The butler returned with a glass of warm water, fresh fruit, and a few elegant snacks, then quietly stepped back.

Mr. Lafond gestured toward the fruit. “Maddox, help yourself.”

“Thank you,” Maddox said, picking up a piece with a small fork.

“Maddox,” Mrs. Lafond said, “please keep an eye on Romina at the banquet. Don’t let her drink too much—she’s got a bad habit of overdoing it. When she gets drunk, she—”

She hesitated.

“She…?”

“She acts different when she’s drunk. Talks nonstop, says crazy things, and… she flirts with handsome guys,” Mrs. Lafond admitted, clearly embarrassed.

Maddox gave a warm smile. “Don’t worry, Auntie. I’ll watch out for her. But I’ve heard she can hold her liquor pretty well.”

“She can,” Mrs. Lafond said. “Years of business dinners built her tolerance, but even she has a limit. Just be careful. If she gets tipsy, bring her home. I’ve arranged for a driver—you’ll both be drinking, and I don’t want anyone driving.”

Maddox nodded seriously.

He couldn’t help but chuckle inside.

Romina—a flirty drunk?

That was something he definitely didn’t see coming.
