Married At First Sight Chapter 4503

“Thank you, Baby and Belle.”

River smiled. “But there’s no need to borrow money from you. Uncle River can earn enough to get married on his own. I’m really happy that you’re willing to help, though. Uncle River loves you both very much.”

Maverick said seriously, “But we want you to get a seventh aunt soon. Uncle River, let us lend you money to help you get married. You can pay us back slowly, whenever you earn more. We won’t charge you interest, and we won’t bug you about it. If my sister and I don’t have enough, we can ask Cairo and the others.”

River laughed. “You even know about interest on loans, huh?”

Maverick really was a York. Even at such a young age, he understood these things.

“How impressive is your Uncle River, huh?”

He gently patted Maverick’s head. “You can lend me money to get married, but Uncle River doesn’t have anyone in mind yet. Marriage is a big deal—it’s a lifelong decision. I have to find someone I truly like.”

“Auntie.”

Belle suddenly pointed at Romina, who was walking ahead with Serenity, and said, “Auntie.”

River immediately understood.

Belle meant Romina—she was suggesting he marry her.

River couldn’t help but find it funny. Belle didn’t know anything about relationships, but she was already trying to play matchmaker.

“Sis, Aunt Romina’s not the right one,” Maverick told Belle. “She’s too fierce. She’d beat Uncle River up.”

River was speechless.

That slap from Romina had really done damage. His nephew now thought he couldn’t stand up to Romina. He’d definitely have to settle the score with her. She needed to take responsibility for this!

Meanwhile, Romina took Serenity on a stroll through a few streets near the hotel and ended up buying a ton of stuff—new clothes, toys, and all kinds of snacks for the kids. She really liked the two little ones.

Serenity tried to stop her, but Romina wouldn’t listen. She insisted that she was buying these things for the kids, not Serenity, and told her not to interfere.

Serenity had no choice but to accept her kindness.

While they were walking, they stopped into a men’s clothing store.

Serenity was thinking about getting a couple of new outfits for her husband. That narrow-minded man needed a little coaxing sometimes.

Zachary had plenty of clothes. Before their marriage, he’d get custom-made suits every season from a personal designer.

After they got married, Serenity became the one to shop for his clothes.

If she ever forgot to get him something new, he’d keep wearing the first batch of clothes she’d bought. To avoid having the CEO of York Corporation walking around in old outfits, she started picking up new ones for him every now and then.

There were times when she bought clothes just for the kids and not for him—and he’d actually get jealous! He’d pout all day until she bought him something, too.

After that, Serenity made sure that every time she got something for the kids, she picked up a few pieces for Zachary as well. No way she was letting a grown man be jealous of his own children.

While Serenity browsed through clothes for her husband, Romina was also checking out men’s suits.

She picked up one and glanced at River, who was holding Belle.

River looked like he was focused on the kids, but he was secretly watching Romina’s every move. When she looked at him with that suit in hand, he felt a little flutter in his chest.

Was Romina going to buy clothes for him?

At that moment, River completely forgot that they were sworn enemies.

“River.”

Romina actually called him over. “Can you try this suit on? I want to see how it looks.”

River walked over, holding Belle. “I’m basically a walking mannequin. I look good in anything.”

Romina replied, “I know you’ve got a good figure. I picked this out for my brother, but I’m not sure how it’ll look on him. You and he are about the same size, so I figured I’d have you try it on.”

River immediately felt a little sour, though he didn’t show it.

So, the suit wasn’t for him after all.

“What’s the point of seeing how it looks if you’re not even giving it to me?”

“You can’t really tell just by holding it up. If it looks good on you, I’ll buy a fresh one for my brother.”

It was just a sample piece.

River sighed. “Romina, have you even considered how I might feel?”

Romina looked confused. “Why would I? Who are you to me? Why would I care about your feelings just because I’m buying something for my brother? Don’t flatter yourself, River.”

River said, “Then why ask me to try it on? We’ve got nothing going on between us. You want me to be your free model, and I don’t even get a modeling fee. You think I’d be happy with that? Shouldn’t you at least consider how I feel?”

“We’re not even close. If we were, maybe I’d help you out for free.”

Romina was left speechless.

Just as the two of them were about to start bickering again, Serenity quickly walked over, took Belle from River’s arms, and said, “River, I’ll take Belle. You go try on the suit Romina picked.”

“If it makes you feel better, I’ll tell Romina to buy you a set, too—as payment for being her model.”

She winked at River, and he instantly got what she meant.

Romina: “Wait, I have to pay you just to try on a suit? What are you, a celebrity?”

“You have no idea how much I can make in a minute. Even a few minutes trying on clothes is costing me. I could be out there making real money. And don’t forget—we’re sworn enemies. If my enemy asks me for a favor, I’d be letting myself down if I didn’t ask for compensation.”

Romina: “You’re so obsessed with money. You must be broke.”

“I am broke. My nephews just offered to lend me their red envelope money so I can get married.”

River took the suit from her, held it up against himself, and said, “This brand’s great. I wear this label all the time. Your brother likes it too? This suit looks amazing on me. Why don’t you buy me one?”

Romina gritted her teeth. “River, I swear, I want to slap you just to see how thick your skin really is. You’ve got no shame!”

She snatched the suit back from him.

“You don’t need to try it on. My brother will look amazing in it.”

River smirked. “I already showed you how good it looks. I helped you out. You owe me.”

Romina was so mad, she laughed. “River, why don’t you just go rob a bank already?!”

River said, “I need a partner. How about you come with me to rob a bank? You stand lookout, I’ll do the job, and we split the money fifty-fifty. Deal?”

Romina frowned. “I’m a law-abiding citizen. I don’t do anything illegal.”

River shrugged. “Well, if I don’t have a partner, I won’t go either. In that case, I’ll just rob you.”

His roguish expression irritated Romina even more. “A man like you shouldn’t fall in love. You’d only hurt whoever you end up with. And here Sister Seren was asking me to find you a girlfriend.”

“I’m not in a relationship. Can’t you see I’m still single at thirty-one?”

River looked at her and grinned. “My sister-in-law gave you this impossible task on purpose, didn’t she? Just so you could laugh at me. But hey, we’re both in our thirties. Still single. Still mocking each other. A couple of lonely losers.”

Romina shot him a glare, grabbed the clothes, and turned to leave. She didn’t want to keep arguing. Deep down, she’d already decided to give that blind date guy a chance.

At twenty-nine, being single with no prospects left her open to all sorts of gossip.

Dating? Sure. Marriage? She’d decide that later.

Honestly, Romina still felt that living alone wasn’t so bad.

When the bickering died down, Serenity finally spoke to River. “River, stop picking on Romina. She just wanted you to try on some clothes so she could see how they looked. It’s not like it would kill you. But no, you throw a fit and now Romina’s ignoring you. If you keep acting like this, what am I supposed to tell Grandma? You’re going to end up a lifelong bachelor.”

She added with a sigh, “Why don’t you take ten days off and go on a few blind dates?”

Romina had already walked away, but she could still hear them. She cut in from a distance, “Sister Seren, we’re both women—don’t sell out your own. Someone like him? He’s better off single. Let’s not ruin a perfectly good girl.”

“If it were me,” Romina added, “I’d rather stay single forever than end up with him.”

River couldn’t resist. “You say that like I’m dying to be with you.”

And just like that, the two were at it again, snapping back and forth until they both turned away in frustration, refusing to look at or speak to each other.

Serenity was stuck in the middle, completely exasperated.

River had asked her to bring Romina out shopping because he wanted to see her.

But once they were out, his behavior was downright maddening.

Maybe it was just how they were. Years of butting heads had turned into a habit.

Romina had once said that if they didn’t argue every time they saw each other, she’d feel uneasy—like River was plotting something behind the scenes.

In the end, she bought matching clothes to the suit she had him try on. Several sets, in fact, along with ties and belts.

River looked on, both jealous and envious, but didn’t say a word.

He ended up buying a few new outfits for himself.

Before marriage, the York men had all worn custom-tailored suits made by family-appointed designers. But ever since the “Red Luan Star” started to stir, they preferred suits from outside stores.

Truth be told, they secretly hoped the women they loved would buy them clothes.

It wasn’t about the money. Even if their women bought them something from a street vendor, they’d wear it proudly.

When they walked out of the store, Bethany had already dozed off.

River had shopping bags hanging from both hands. If they kept going, he wouldn’t be able to carry anything else.

Of course, Romina had handed him all her shopping bags to carry.

She didn’t give him a single new outfit—just loaded him down and said it was time for him to show some “gentlemanly manners.”

“Romina, we’ve been shopping forever. I’m beat. Let’s call it a night. If you’re free another day, I’ll take you out to eat, and we’ll do a little shopping—just the two of us.”

No kids. No sister-in-law.

Romina glanced at sleeping Bethany. Even Maverick was yawning non-stop. The kids were clearly worn out. “Alright, we’ll stop here. If I’m free another day, I’ll call Sister Seren.”

“No need to trouble her. It’s her first time in Eaglioncile—let me show her some hospitality and treat you guys to dinner.”

She gently touched Bethany’s cheek. “She looks wiped out.”

Serenity nodded. “We were on a flight for hours and didn’t rest after landing. We’re both exhausted.”

Romina smiled in agreement.

Their cars were parked at the Eaglioncile Hotel, so they hailed two taxis and headed back.

River took Romina’s bags to put them in her car.

“Give them to me,” she said.

Romina took the designer bags from him and started inspecting each one closely.

River teased, “Relax, you bought all of these. I didn’t steal anything. If something’s missing, I’ll pay you back.”

He’d helped her carry everything all night, and she didn’t even thank him. She just kept checking the bags, like he’d pocketed something.

Of course, River had picked on her tonight on purpose. It was a habit. He felt off if he didn’t bicker with her every time they met.

Honestly, if he didn’t get a few jabs in, he wouldn’t be able to sleep at night.

But he wasn’t the type to take advantage of someone. Deep down, he’d hoped Romina would gift him a new outfit—but stealing? Come on.

He was the seventh young master of the York family. His net worth was in the billions. Maybe not as high as his brother’s hundreds of billions, but still leagues above most CEOs.

Why would he steal clothes Romina bought for her brother?

Even if he and Donovan were similar in build, their suits weren’t interchangeable.

Romina looked up and shot River a glare, then went back to checking her bags.

Finally, she pulled out a white shopping bag and handed it to him.

River instinctively took it. “What’s this supposed to mean?”

Romina didn’t answer right away. She stuffed the rest of the bags into the car, climbed in, buckled up, and was about to drive off when she finally said, “That one’s for you. Consider it payment for carrying all my stuff tonight.”

River quickly opened the bag and peeked inside, then looked up—but she was already driving away.

This woman. If she’d told him earlier she was giving him a new outfit, he would’ve acted like a perfect gentleman all night.

But no—she kept it to herself, and now his charm had fizzled out.

What a shame.

Still holding the elegant bag, River turned toward his car.

Serenity had already buckled her kids into the backseat. Maverick leaned against the seat and immediately drifted off.

The little guy was completely out.
