Married At First Sight Chapter 4471
Romina said, “River.”
River stayed quiet, waiting for her to go on.
Romina smacked the swollen side of his face—it was red and definitely hurt.
At this point, River didn’t even want to talk. Romina had picked a fight, and he couldn’t back down.
“What kind of girl do you like?” Romina asked. “I could actually be your matchmaker and introduce you to someone. Then maybe you’d finally stop fighting me for business.”
River replied, “Unless we’re in different industries, there’ll always be competition. Whoever wins the client has the skill.”
Romina said, “So, what, you admit defeat now? You’ve never admitted defeat before. You’ve always had to go toe-to-toe with me. Can you even compete? Your company was almost bankrupt, then you came in and turned it around—and suddenly we were enemies.”
River snorted. “Back then, we couldn’t grow because you were suppressing us. We were on the brink of bankruptcy. But business is all about profit. Everyone wants to win. I didn’t steal, cheat, or play dirty. I beat you with real ability. That’s not wrong. As long as the contract isn’t signed, it’s fair game.
Even after a contract is signed, companies can still compare deals and work with multiple vendors. It’s like when we shop—we compare prices before buying anything.”
Romina: “…Fine. Let’s not talk about business. Let’s talk about relationships. What kind of girl do you like?”
River said, “Definitely not someone like you.”
Romina flared up. “What’s wrong with me? Am I that bad?”
River said, “To me, yeah. You’re not what I want. I wouldn’t fall for someone like you.”
Romina snapped, “You’re the bad one! Your whole family is bad!”
Serenity suddenly cut in. “Excuse me, Miss Lafond, you can insult him, but leave his family out of it. My husband is part of that family, and he’s amazing. Look—I’ve got two beautiful kids.”
Romina froze, embarrassed.
She avoided looking at Serenity and the children.
This was all River’s fault.
If he didn’t know how to keep his mouth shut, he shouldn’t speak at all. His words could drive anyone crazy.
“Sister Seren, I—I’ll be more careful. I won’t bring his family into it.”
Conflicts should stay between the two people involved.
“Miss Lafond, just focus on icing his face,” Serenity said, smiling. “You two should stay quiet. Every time you talk, you end up fighting. You really do act like a pair of destined enemies. They say enemies never meet, yet River traveled over 2,000 kilometers for business and ended up clashing with you.”
Fate had its way of making people cross paths.
If it wasn’t meant to be, they would’ve passed by each other without ever meeting.
River and Romina: “…”
They stared at each other—River glaring, Romina glaring back.
But this time, both held back and stayed silent.
Romina kept pressing the ice gently to River’s face. As she worked, a look of guilt crept into her eyes.
She had done this—swollen such a handsome face. It was her fault.
Wait—why did she feel guilty?
They were supposed to be mortal enemies.
River had never shown mercy in the past, and she had returned the favor. They were always at odds—this was how it had always been.
But now, in front of Serenity and her son, they stayed quiet.
Once the swelling had eased, Romina handed an ice pack to River and said, “It’s better now. Just keep icing it slowly.”

Romina said, “I’ve got to head back to the office.”
River didn’t stop her. He just watched her leave.
Serenity and her son also watched as Romina’s figure disappeared into the distance.
“River,” Serenity teased, “stop staring. She’s long gone—you won’t see her now.”
River snapped out of it and cleared his throat. When he noticed he’d finished all his snacks, he said, “Sister-in-law, I’ll take you to my place. You can send the location to the bodyguards—they can take a cab straight to the house. Or, if you’d rather, we can check into a hotel.”
Serenity felt that staying in River’s house might disturb him. The kids could be loud, and besides, he wasn’t married.
River said, “If you and the kids go to a hotel, I’ll be doomed. Grandma, my parents, and my oldest brother will kill me if they find out. I’ve got a big villa here. Usually, it’s just me and a few workers—it’s too empty. It needs some life. You and the kids should stay. I’m usually busy and sleep at the office. When I do come home, it’s only for a night. There are plenty of rooms for the bodyguards and a nanny. I’ll have the butler take care of it.”
His sister-in-law and her kids had come all this way. If they didn’t stay with him, his brother would blow a fuse—even if the hotel was five-star.
River was so insistent that Serenity couldn’t say no.
Once River paid the bill, she took her son and left with him. Belle automatically reached out and let her Uncle River carry her.
She hadn’t seen him in a while, and now that she had, she wanted to cling to him.
Romina returned to Lafond Group.
As soon as she stepped in, everyone noticed something was off. Vice President Lafond looked upset—face cold, expression tight.
Though everyone greeted her, they did so cautiously, afraid of becoming her next target.
Normally, Vice President Lafond was calm, polite, and easy to talk to. But when she got serious, she could be downright terrifying.
She rarely lost her temper, but today… it was clear something had set her off.
The Lafond Group was one of the biggest in Eaglioncile. The Lafonds were among the city’s wealthiest families.
Romina was the eldest daughter of the family, and no one dared provoke her.
Well, except one person—River York, President of Yantail Company.
Yantail kept expanding into industries that overlapped with Lafond Group. The two companies were fierce rivals—locked in open and hidden battles.
Years ago, Yantail was nearly bankrupt under Lafond Group’s pressure.
Their employees hadn’t been paid in months, waiting for the company to collapse so the government would step in and pay the wages. Then, the company brought in a professional manager.
That person was River.
He came from Wiltspoon, with a background no one knew much about.
But once River took charge, he turned things around. In just three years, he pulled Yantail out of the red. Two years after that, it had become one of the city’s strongest companies.

You had to admit—River was a capable man. The founder of Yantail admired and trusted him deeply, even handing over half of the company’s shares. River had the final say on all company matters. The founder didn’t bother with anything anymore—he just sat back and collected the profits.
He never had a daughter, but if he did, he probably would’ve tried to marry her off to River.
After Yantail became one of the top companies in Eaglioncile, it developed a fierce rivalry with Lafond Group, which operated in the same industry. River was fully aware that Yantail had almost gone bankrupt in its early days—and it had Lafond’s fingerprints all over it.
River and the Lafond Group’s vice president clashed every time they crossed paths. The animosity between them was undeniable.
In Eaglioncile, everyone knew they were sworn enemies.
If someone hosted a banquet and invited Romina, River would definitely be left off the guest list, just to avoid the two throwing down in public and putting the host in an awkward position.
Sometimes Lafond’s customers switched to Yantail, and vice versa. The competition between the two companies was relentless—a nonstop business war.
Consumers, however, loved it. Many were hoping the war would lead to a price battle so they could score great products at bargain prices.
There were even rumors that Romina had bribed someone at Yantail to sabotage the lucky bamboo and fortune tree in River’s office.
River was from Wiltspoon, where it was common for businesses to keep lucky bamboo and money trees, and place a God of Wealth statue to invite fortune and success.
Messing with those symbols of prosperity was like stabbing them with a knife—it was deeply offensive and could push someone over the edge.
Bottom line—River and Romina were mortal enemies. Their grudge ran so deep, it was nearly impossible to resolve unless one of them completely withdrew from the business world.
Romina merely nodded at her employees’ greetings as she walked past, saying nothing.
She headed straight into the elevator and took it to the top floor.
Her office, as vice president, was on the same floor as the president’s.
The CEO of Lafond Group was her older brother. Their grandfather served as chairman.
Romina and her brother were their grandfather’s first grandchildren, and he adored them both. Sure, he was happy when later grandkids were born—but nothing topped the excitement he felt the first time.
They were both competent and had earned his trust. In the company, Romina was vice president, her brother the CEO—both of them outranked their cousins.
“Vice President.”
Romina’s secretary stepped forward upon seeing her return.
Romina responded coldly, “If it’s not urgent, save it. I need a moment.”
The secretary hesitated, then nodded and watched Romina walk into her office.
Romina sat down, leaned back in her chair, and slowly spun side to side. She stared ahead, eyes unfocused, lost in thought.
She didn’t know how much time had passed before her phone buzzed.
It was a message.
She knew that number by heart, even though it wasn’t saved in her contacts. It was River’s.
She knew his phone number, his address—so many details about him.
You had to know your enemy well if you wanted to win every battle.
Romina opened the message.
“The swelling on my face hasn’t gone down completely, old aunt. You owe me a meal to make up for all the pain.”
He was actually asking her to treat him to dinner.
Married At First Sight Chapter 4474
He wanted her to buy him dinner? Did he really have the guts to show up and eat?
Wasn’t he afraid she’d slip something into the food?
Romina fired off a reply without hesitation:
“You said I helped you apply a face mask and reduced the swelling. When I left, it was barely noticeable unless someone looked closely. You also let me go, and now you’re making new demands. River, are you trying to blackmail me? I’m telling you now—I won’t be threatened. If you think you have a case, go to the police. I’m not scared.”
His face was hardly swollen anymore. Even if he reported it, the doctors would find nothing.
River messaged again.
“If you don’t treat me to dinner, I’ll sit in your office all day tomorrow. Anyone who comes to do business with you—I’ll drive them away. I’ll annoy you to death.”
Romina was so mad she laughed.
“River, when did you become this shameless? Fine, come if you want. You think I’m scared of you showing up outside my office?”
He was supposed to take his sister-in-law and their kids out tomorrow. Did he really have time to stalk her office?
Even if she sat there all day waiting, she wasn’t going to invite him to dinner.
If he had the nerve, he could camp out in her office every day—let’s see how long his company lasted.
River replied:
“I’ll go to Chairman Lafond and tell him you took advantage of me. I’ll demand you take responsibility.”
Romina: “… River, when did I ever take advantage of you?”
She was too annoyed to keep texting, so she called him.
He didn’t pick up.
After a while, he called her back.
He’d just gotten home after taking his sister-in-law and the kids to his big villa. Now that he was away from them, it was easier to call—he didn’t want his sister-in-law eavesdropping on any juicy gossip.
She’d claimed she was just traveling with the kids, but really, she was there on behalf of their grandma and parents—to pressure River into settling down.
All the brothers respected their sister-in-law and took her advice seriously.
She had a good impression of Romina, and River figured if she overheard too much, she might start thinking he and Romina were actually a couple.
Romina answered the call.
“Mr. York, explain yourself. When exactly did I take advantage of you? Don’t try to twist things around just to make me look bad. I can’t believe someone who seems so put-together can be such a scoundrel.”
River replied, “You touched my face. Your palm smacked me so hard it left me swollen. Isn’t that taking advantage?”
Romina: “…”
She hit him, for crying out loud!
This man was so shameless, it was unreal.
He was clearly making excuses to squeeze compensation out of her—just trying to push her buttons.
River added, “If Chairman Lafond found out his favorite granddaughter was this violent, you think he’d still be proud?”
Romina said, “My grandfather wouldn’t be disappointed—he’d just feel bad for me. He’d say my hand must’ve hurt from slapping you.”
River: “…”
Romina continued, “River, what happened today—I admit I was wrong. I sincerely apologize. I’ll have someone send you a gift tomorrow as compensation. But I was really angry when I hit you. You can’t blame me entirely. I was about to sign a big contract and you cut in and snatched it away. Does your sister-in-law know how shameless you are? Isn’t she like a mother to you? You respect her so much—what would she think if she knew the kind of man you really are? Be careful, she might give you a beating herself.”
Even though it was her first time meeting Serenity, Romina could tell River had deep respect for his sister-in-law.
