Married At First Sight Chapter 4467

River was at a loss for words.

Even though he’d lived in Eaglioncile for years and owned a house there, he barely knew anything about the local attractions. He simply didn’t have the time to explore.

He’d heard about a few places here and there, but he had no idea if they were actually fun—he’d never been.

Romina said, “Baby and Belle are still so young, and a lot of places aren’t really suited for them. I thought we could take them to Ocean World and the zoo. And besides those, maybe the amusement park. Kids love amusement parks. Even if there are rides they can’t go on, there’s still a lot they can do.”

Before River could respond, Maverick chimed in, “We don’t want to go to the amusement park.”

They already had one at home—and a huge one at Wildridge Manor. Whenever there was a break, he and his siblings would play there. He was over it.

But Ocean World? That sounded exciting.

He vaguely remembered going there once or twice with his parents, but Belle had never been.

Romina looked surprised and smiled. “Sweetie, amusement parks are fun! A lot of kids would love to play with you there.”

“I don’t want to go. I’ve been already. It’s not fun anymore,” Maverick replied. Since he’d flown all this way with his mom, he wanted to try things they didn’t have back in Wiltspoon.

His parents often took them to the nearby amusement park on weekends. But the rides were just like the ones at home—only now they had to wait in long lines and pay for it. The ride itself barely lasted two minutes.

It wasn’t about money—the Yorks didn’t lack that. But Maverick couldn’t help comparing.

At home, everything was free, no lines, and always full of family. He had siblings, cousins, and friends to play with—like Uncle Josh’s son, his aunt’s kid, and others. It was always lively and fun.

He’d never lacked company, so crowded amusement parks didn’t appeal to him. He preferred quieter, more peaceful places.

That might’ve been something he inherited from his dad.

Zachary didn’t like crowds either. He valued calm and space. Before he got married, he avoided banquets because he hated the noise. After marriage, he went more often—mostly to show off his love for Serenity and to rile up the single elites.

But even then, the couple never brought their kids to those events.

The Yorks were very protective of their children. They made sure their faces weren’t captured by the media. Whenever they went out, they’d throw off the press with distractions, then quietly head out dressed like regular people. It gave the kids freedom and privacy.

The kids would only be shown to the public when they grew up and chose to enter the business world.

Romina was momentarily speechless.

She turned to Serenity with a smile. “Sister Seren, you usually take the kids to the playground, right? This is the first time I’ve met a kid who doesn’t like the amusement park.”

Kids Maverick’s age were usually full of energy and eager to play.

Serenity nodded. “Yeah, my husband and I take the kids out on weekends to relax.”

Sometimes, Serenity would take the kids back to Wildridge Manor. The place was huge, perfect for letting the kids run around and play for a couple of days while spending time with their grandmother.

The old lady didn’t go out much anymore. She was getting on in years, and every trip to the city made her grandkids nervous—but they never turned her down. If she wanted to go, at least two of them would drop everything to accompany her.

Serenity often went back to the villa herself to pick up the old lady and bring her to the city for a visit—to relax, and to see her great-grandchildren.

Most of the York brothers lived in the city now, each with their own homes. Their kids stayed with them and attended kindergarten nearby.

But they made time on weekends to bring the kids to the villa to spend time with their elders.

After all, when someone gets that old, every day counts.

Romina smiled. “No wonder. So Baby wants to go to Ocean World, huh? I’ll have someone take you—how about that?”

Maverick politely declined. “Thank you, Aunt Romina, but Uncle River already said he’d take us. I don’t want to take up your time.”

In truth, he hadn’t forgotten that Aunt Romina had slapped Uncle River the moment she showed up.

Belle might’ve been kind to her—maybe she wasn’t a bad person—but Maverick couldn’t bring himself to get close to someone who hit his uncle.

Belle was still too young to understand. She followed her feelings and let whoever seemed kind hug her.

Romina smiled. “Okay, next time then. Aunt Romina will treat you to a nice dinner.”

Maverick said seriously, “As long as Aunt Romina doesn’t hit my Uncle River again, I’ll be happy.”

Romina was stunned.

River gave her a quick glance, then gently patted Maverick’s head. “That’s my boy. You love your Uncle River and always have my back. Belle’s a little traitor. She sees a pretty face and runs straight into their arms.”

“Uncle River, Belle’s not a traitor,” Maverick defended her. “She’s just young and doesn’t know better. She wanted Aunt Romina to hold her. I don’t think Aunt Romina is a bad person. She only hit you because of a fight. I don’t know who’s right or wrong, but I’m older than Belle. I pick sides. You’re my uncle, so I’m siding with you. Belle just follows her heart.”

The people Belle liked were never bad.

Grandma always said Belle had the purest eyes—she could see through people. She just knew who was good and who wasn’t.

Even if someone acted nice with a smile, if they were fake, Belle wouldn’t go to them.

But if someone kind didn’t look good on the outside, Belle could still sense their goodness and let them hold her.

To Maverick, Belle’s judgment was the gold standard.

Romina looked at Maverick, stunned. After a moment, she said to River, “Your nephew is smart—and protective. You must treat him really well.”

River smiled. “Of course. He’s my first nephew. I’ve always spoiled him.”

“Uncle River loves Belle more now,” Maverick teased.

River chuckled. “Don’t you love your sister too?”

Maverick fell silent. Of course he did. She was his only sister. How could he not?

River patted Maverick’s head again. “Baby, you don’t understand what’s going on between me and her yet. You will when you’re older. But you’re right—she’s not a bad person. She has a good heart.”

They were just natural-born business rivals—always butting heads.

River knew Romina’s character all too well.

She was popular with everyone, yet she always showed him her worst side.

It left a bitter taste in his mouth. Everyone else got the best version of her, but not him.

Didn’t he deserve her kindness too?

Then again, he had stolen her business. And he had stolen her. If she treated him too nicely after that, she’d look like a fool.

That thought made him feel better.

After all, he hadn’t exactly treated her with kindness either.

“Oh, I’ve known you for five or six years, and this is the first time I’ve ever heard you say I’m a good person,” Romina said, pretending to be touched.

River shrugged. “You want to call yourself a bad person, go ahead. I won’t argue.”

“Bad people don’t call themselves bad. I’m a good person, and I’m not about to go around saying I’m not. I still need to get married someday. Don’t want to ruin my reputation.”

River smirked. “You’re already pushing it. You’re thirty and still single. No boyfriend. Guess no one’s into you. Sure, you’ve got a pretty face and a great figure—but how come no one’s biting?”

Just like that, the mood tanked.

Back to bickering.

Romina fired back. “I’m twenty-nine, not thirty! And if I wanted a boyfriend, I could get ten or twenty in a minute. Tons of guys like me—I just don’t like them. You wanna talk about me? Let’s talk about you. You’re thirty-one. No girlfriend. Plenty of women are after you—so what, you too scared to date because you can’t… perform?”

Serenity’s eyes widened.

She actually liked Romina’s fiery temper.

If River found out, would he call her a traitor too?

River’s face darkened instantly.

Belle sensed the tension and quietly crawled back into her mother’s arms.

Maverick scooted closer to Serenity and whispered, “Mom, Uncle River’s face is like thunder. Super dark. Kinda scary.”

He had never seen Uncle River look like that before.

Romina’s words hit hard.

River didn’t even notice Maverick had moved. He snapped back at Romina. “Oh, so I don’t have a girlfriend—what about you? No boyfriend. What’s the deal? Are you into women? Is that it? You wanna come out now? I can hook you up with a girlfriend if you want.”

Romina shot up, furious. “River! That slap earlier wasn’t hard enough! You really are the worst! Nothing but garbage comes out of your mouth. Either you can’t perform, or you’re secretly gay!”

River exploded. “Ever seen a dog spit out ivory? I’ll bring my pet dog over and we’ll test that theory!”

He leaned forward, his voice full of fire. “You think I can’t perform? Want to find out? Let’s go—I’ll prove it.”

Romina froze, speechless.

She didn’t dare respond to that.

Still, she looked at him with that skeptical, mocking stare like she actually believed he couldn’t.

That look made River want to blow a fuse.

If Serenity and the kids weren’t there, he’d have dragged Romina upstairs right then and booked a room—just to prove her wrong.

Fine, he thought bitterly, I’ll take responsibility afterward.

He couldn’t let her question his manhood. That was too far.

Romina didn’t speak.

Serenity, trying to hold back a laugh, teased, “Miss Lafond, what’s wrong? Why aren’t you firing back anymore? Don’t let him win—keep going.”

Both of them looked at Serenity.

Serenity smiled shyly. “You two are hilarious when you bicker.”

They’d been at it for years—they knew each other too well by now.

If there wasn’t so much tension between them, maybe there could be sparks instead.

Serenity had brought her baby to Eaglioncile for a little vacation, but she also carried the weighty task given by Grandma and her second uncle and aunt: to push River toward marriage. That mission had landed squarely on her shoulders as the eldest sister-in-law.

She couldn’t help but feel that River and Romina had that “enemies-to-lovers” energy.

“Sister-in-law.”

“Sister Seren.”

They both called out in low voices.

Serenity just smiled, clearly enjoying the show. She was here for the drama and didn’t mind stirring the pot a bit.

Right then, Romina’s secretary arrived with an ice pack in hand.

She glanced at River’s swollen face, then at Serenity and the kids, before finally landing on her boss, Vice President Romina.

Romina said casually, “It’s nothing. Go back to work. I’ll be at the office later.”

She didn’t want her secretary witnessing the scene of her applying an ice pack to River’s face.

The secretary nodded respectfully, though clearly full of questions, and left.

As soon as she was gone, River moved his chair closer to Romina.

His handsome face—though now a little swollen—was right next to hers. He gave his cheek a light pat and said, “Romina, come on, help me out here. This swelling is seriously messing with my good looks.”

“If this gets out to the media, I’ll be ruined. If I can’t get a wife after this, you’ll have to make up for it.”

Romina frowned. “I didn’t ruin your reputation. And I don’t see you with a wife anyway. That’s on you. Can’t find a wife and still have the nerve to blame me? Want me to compensate you with a wife? Fine. I’ll do it right now. I’ve got tons of young female employees at my company.”

She continued, voice full of sarcasm, “I’m not heartless—I won’t give you a bad one. I’ll pick someone outstanding, with great character. But if it works out, you’d better treat me to your wedding and hand over a generous matchmaking gift. If the gift’s not a business contract worth a billion, don’t even bother inviting me.”

River was speechless.

She was willing to compensate him with a wife—but could he actually accept that?

No way.

He wanted to marry someone he truly liked. Someone with integrity and a clean family background. Ideally, someone who matched the York family’s status. His six brothers and their wives had all married well—he couldn’t be the one to fall short.

Character mattered the most.

Women who married into the York family, whether the older generation or his sisters-in-law, were all high-quality women. He couldn’t be the one to lower the standard.

His grandmother always said that a good woman could bring prosperity to three generations.

Their family had come this far because they had so many exceptional women.

Romina didn’t just talk—she reached out and gently pressed the ice pack to River’s face.

They’d fought for years, but she couldn’t deny it—he was handsome.

And he couldn’t deny that she was beautiful.

Even so, they’d never been this close. So close, in fact, that Romina started to wonder if they were really enemies at all.

She had to admit—he was the most attractive man she’d ever laid eyes on.

Not just a pretty face either—he was incredibly capable. Plenty of businessmen grumbled behind his back, saying he left them no room to breathe.

And a lot of businesswomen had a thing for River. Sure, most of them were older and had no chance with him—but that didn’t stop them from trying to play matchmaker.
