Married At First Sight Chapter 4459

Maverick replied, “My mom and I just go wherever she takes us to have fun.”

River smiled and said, “Then Uncle will take you to Ocean World or the zoo. You’ll love it.”

A lot of the rides at the amusement park weren’t suitable for kids that young, so River had no plans to take his nieces and nephews there. Besides, the York family’s old estate already had a large playground. After the baby was born, all the equipment had been replaced with brand-new ones.

Grandma had said the old playground was originally meant for her sons. Now that they were grown, it was time to update everything for the next generation.

“Okay,” Maverick nodded.

The snacks River ordered arrived. He turned to Serenity and said, “Sister-in-law, have some snacks first. Afterward, I’ll take you to my place. I already asked the butler to prepare a bunch of your favorite dishes.”

Serenity replied, “We’re not really hungry. How about we stay here at the hotel instead? You have to work every day, and we’re here just to relax. We don’t want to take up your time. You can just have your butler show us around—we don’t need you to accompany us personally.”

River shook his head. “That won’t work. Sister-in-law, this is your first time here. If I let you stay at a hotel instead of my place, my brother would have my head. I’ve got people to take care of work for me. I want to spend a few days with you guys. I especially want to be with Belle. If I don’t, she might not even remember me as her uncle when she goes back.”

He lived in Eaglioncile and rarely went home—only returning to Wiltspoon when he had time. The kids at home didn’t have a strong impression of him as their uncle. That was understandable with so many nephews. But Belle was different—she was the long-awaited daughter in the York family, and River saw her as his own. He couldn’t let his little niece forget who he was.

“Sister-in-law, did you travel here with just the kids? No bodyguards or nannies with you?” River asked while handing a dessert to his niece.

Was it really safe for his big brother to let his wife travel with the kids alone?

Serenity said, “They’re on their way. Both nannies got airsick and were feeling really unwell after the flight. I had the bodyguards stay back to take care of them. Once they feel better, they’ll come join us. Your big brother would never let me travel alone with the kids without a nanny or a bodyguard.”

If it had just been her and Maverick, Zachary might have allowed it, since Serenity knew martial arts and could handle herself. Maverick, at just six years old, had already been training in martial arts since he was three or four. After a couple of years, he could even knock down his older cousin, Sonny.

Sonny had been practicing martial arts for a while too, but only performed well against regular kids. Whenever he went up against someone with actual training, he didn’t stand much of a chance.

When Serenity first enrolled Sonny in martial arts, the instructor had said he lacked natural talent and could only improve through sheer persistence. Over time, he’d be better than the average person and at least grow strong and healthy.

Zachary was always nervous about taking Bethany out. She was his precious daughter—more important to him than his own eyes. If it wasn’t for something urgent or a business trip, he would’ve dropped everything to go on vacation with his wife and kids.

To ease Zachary’s concerns, Serenity agreed to bring both a nanny and a bodyguard.

Having a nanny around made looking after the kids so much easier.

“How’s Grandma doing?” River asked with genuine concern.

Married At First Sight Chapter 4460

“I’ve been so busy lately I haven’t had time to go back and visit Grandma,” Serenity said. “She’s doing okay overall, but she’s getting older. Like most elderly folks, she has some health issues. The family doctor checks her regularly and gives her medicine to help her recover.”

She sighed lightly. “But these days, Grandma’s becoming more and more like a child. She refuses to take her medicine, so I have to coax her every day. When she found out I was coming to Eaglioncile, she wanted to come with me, but your big brother talked her out of it. She’s not as strong as she used to be.”

Serenity wished the old lady could live a long, healthy life—like Mr. Jimenez, who passed away just after turning 100. That was what you called a peaceful passing.

“Grandma’s worried about your love life,” Serenity added. “She says she doesn’t have the energy anymore to go around looking for wives for her grandsons. She picked out wives for your six older brothers, but she didn’t get to do it for you, or for the eighth and ninth. She said if you three don’t get married, she won’t be able to rest easy—even after she’s gone to see Grandpa.”

“She told me, and so did my second uncle and aunt, to talk to you directly. You’re 31 now. It’s time to think about your future. Isn’t there anyone suitable in Eaglioncile? Second Aunt said the girl doesn’t have to come from a big family. As long as she’s decent and kind, that’s enough.”

“We set up blind dates for you, but you always say you’re too busy to show up.”

As the eldest sister-in-law, Serenity cared deeply about her brothers-in-law and their futures.

Out of the nine York brothers, only three were still single. River was already 31, and even Zachary had gotten married at 30.

River smiled and said, “Sister-in-law, marriage is all about fate. Mine just hasn’t come yet. I’ll tell Grandma that when I meet the right girl, I’ll get married. She already has a great-grandson, and now a great-granddaughter too. She doesn’t have to worry anymore.”

Serenity ordered a coffee. After it arrived, she took a few sips before setting it down. “It’s not about great-grandkids anymore. Grandma just feels bad for you. She’s afraid that by the time you’re ready to settle down, she’ll be too old to help you find someone.”

“I don’t blame Grandma,” River said with a relaxed smile. “Tell her not to worry. If I’m still single at 35, you can help pick my wife. As long as she’s a good woman and you all approve, I’ll marry her.”

River truly believed his sisters-in-law had his best interest at heart. If they helped him find a wife, she’d definitely be someone with a good character.

He wasn’t concerned about falling in love right away. A respectful and steady marriage was still a good life.

Maybe they’d fall in love after getting married—just like Zachary and Serenity. They didn’t fall in love before marriage, but now, years later with two kids, they were still as in love as when it all began.

Plenty of women had tried to interfere in Zachary and Serenity’s marriage, but none succeeded. Zachary only had eyes for his wife.

River believed he’d be the same. Once the men of the York family got married, they were in it for life. No second thoughts. No regrets.

“Thirty-five is a little too old,” Serenity said. “Your oldest brother was only thirty when he married me.”

River took a sip of his coffee. The little girl in his arms looked up at him with big eyes, clearly wanting a taste.

“Belle, this is for adults. You can’t have it. Your brother can drink some juice or warm water.”

Belle glanced at her mom, then at her brother, and obediently went back to eating her snack.

If Belle wasn’t allowed to have something, the adults never gave in—even if she cried. But if she could have something, all it took was a glance, and someone would get it for her.

She was a smart little girl.

Snuggled up in Uncle River’s arms, she nibbled her snacks with poise.

Still, nothing compared to the snacks Uncle Tatum made.

Uncle Tatum hadn’t been home in a while, and Belle missed the food he used to cook for her. His meals were the best.

Whenever he came home, he’d make tons of dishes just for her.

“Uncle River,” Belle suddenly called out softly.

“Yes, Belle? What is it?” River looked down at her with a gentle smile.

“Miss you.”

River’s heart melted. He kissed her cheek and said warmly, “Uncle River misses you too. I miss all of you kids. I think about you all the time.”

Maverick chimed in, “Uncle River, why don’t you come home?”

“Uncle River’s been busy,” River replied, patting his nephew’s head. “Once this busy stretch is over, I’ll be home.”

“Husband—!”

A sudden, sharp scream rang out.

River wasn’t married, so hearing someone call him “husband” didn’t register at first.

“Husband! How dare you have a mistress behind my back and not tell me? You even have two kids! They’re already this big! Tell me, how could you do this to me?”

A woman’s furious voice echoed through the café, drawing every eye in the room.

River turned toward the voice—something about it sounded familiar.

He saw Romina storming toward him, looking livid.

River’s brow furrowed. What is she doing here?

And who was she calling “husband”?

Romina wasn’t even married. She was nearly thirty and hadn’t had a single boyfriend. She was too career-focused, too intense—no man wanted to date her, let alone marry her.

Good looks only got you so far.

When it came to marriage, men cared more about personality. Beautiful, curvy women were often seen as flings, not wives.

Of course, if you found a woman who was both beautiful and capable, that was a blessing. River’s brothers had all lucked out in that department—their wives had great looks, great families, and strong abilities.

Romina suddenly charged up to him and, without a word, slapped him hard across the face.

The loud smack shocked everyone—including River and Serenity.

Even though Eaglioncile was far from Wiltspoon and most people didn’t know River was a York, he was still well-known for his success. No one would dare slap him like that… right?

“River! How could you?” Romina shouted. “You’re hiding a mistress and two kids! They even look like you! Don’t you dare tell me they’re not yours. I hate you! I’m furious!”

Before River could react, Romina tried to slap him again.

But this time, the slap didn’t land.

Serenity had already stepped forward and caught Romina’s wrist mid-swing.

River was still holding Belle, so he couldn’t retaliate. Serenity stepped in to protect the child—she didn’t want Belle to get accidentally hurt.

Romina stared at Serenity.

The young woman was beautiful, poised, and clearly strong—she gave off the vibe of a capable, no-nonsense woman.

When did River start seeing someone like her?

River had never dated anyone. Could he really be into younger women?

Romina had to admit—if she were a man, she’d be drawn to someone like Serenity too.

“Let me go!” Romina yelled. “You seduced my husband and still have the nerve to act high and mighty?! Who even are you? Are you his wife? River doesn’t even have a girlfriend, so how can he have a wife?”

Serenity, expression firm, said, “I’m River’s sister-in-law, not his mistress! Those two kids are his niece and nephew. My husband is River’s brother. Of course there’s a resemblance—it’s completely normal for family members to look alike.”

Romina froze. “You’re… River’s sister-in-law?”

No wonder she couldn’t break free—River’s sister-in-law was clearly trained in martial arts or something.

River gently set Belle down beside Maverick, who quickly scooped her up and stared at Romina warily.

Then River stood, took Romina’s hand from Serenity, and said, “Sister-in-law, it’s fine. Let her go.”

Serenity let go and asked, “River, do you know this woman?”

Clearly, their relationship was tense.

This woman had done it on purpose—made a scene to ruin River’s reputation and sneak in a few slaps.

Just look at River’s face—it was already red and swollen, her handprint still visible. She’d hit him with full force.

“I’m Romina Lafond,” she said proudly. “Vice President of the Lafond Group. I’ve known River for years. He’s my arch-nemesis—we’re constantly battling over business.”

Then she turned to River. “Let go of me!”

River raised a brow. “Romina, what did you just call me? Husband?”

Romina snapped, “No! You heard wrong. I called you a dead man! You’re the one who fights me every day—stealing clients, snatching orders I worked hard to negotiate. I’ve had enough, River! This isn’t over—I won’t let it go!”

River let her go, then pointed at the red mark on his cheek. His voice was cold. “You slapped me in public, Romina. That’s not something I’m letting slide. Business is about skill. If I landed those orders, it means I’m capable. Why are you so bitter? You try to take other people’s clients, but when someone takes yours, you lose it?”

He narrowed his eyes. “You scared my niece, and you humiliated me. If you don’t apologize and clear this up—”

Romina cut him off, chin raised defiantly. “Or what?”

She wasn’t afraid of River at all.
