Elise had become famous because of Halsey, but now she desperately wanted to escape Halsey’s shadow. She didn’t want to spend her whole life being overshadowed by Halsey. To be seen as just another version or a copy of Halsey felt like a humiliation.

Halsey stopped and turned to look. “I’ve already made myself clear. Why are you still bothering me? Don’t you have anything better to do?”

Elise hated how cold Halsey sounded. “Why-”

Suddenly, Elise caught sight of a tall, handsome figure approaching. Shaun was here.

Immediately, she switched to a pitiful look. “I didn’t try to seduce Mr. Lane. Why are you calling me a tramp?”

Halsey was speechless. She had no idea what Elise was talking about.

Then Elise grabbed Halsey’s hand. “Let me explain-ah!”

Before Halsey could react, Elise held up Halsey’s hand and slapped herself across the face.

Elise staggered back a couple of steps, almost falling. Just then, a hand reached out and grabbed her arm, steadying her.

Elise looked up. “Mr. Lane.”

Halsey saw Shaun, too. Actually, Elise’s strange behavior had already made Halsey suspect Shaun was nearby.

This whole scene of Elise acting out in front of Shaun was honestly ridiculous.

Elise looked up at Shaun with a face full of grievance. “Don’t blame Ms. Mallin. She didn’t mean to slap me.”

Shaun turned to Halsey. “Why did you slap her?”

Halsey was speechless. She stared at Elise. “Did I slap you?”

Elise immediately shook her head, scared. “No, Mr. Lane, Ms. Mallin didn’t slap me. It’s a misunderstanding… I think I must’ve done something wrong to make her angry.”

Halsey smiled coldly and stepped forward until she was standing in front of Shaun and Elise.

Smack!

She slapped Elise hard across the face.

Elise’s face twisted, shocked. She covered her cheek, staring at Halsey in disbelief. “What are you doing?”

Halsey sneered, “Now, that’s what I call slapping you.”

Elise was so angry she felt like she might get a stroke. But with Shaun here, she couldn’t lash out. Instead, she just looked up at

him with tear-filled eyes, acting pitiful.

“I don’t know why she did that. What did I do to deserve being slapped twice?”

Halsey’s eyes were cold as she watched Elise play the victim. “Do you want another slap?”

She raised her hand to strike again.

But she didn’t get the chance. A strong hand shot out and grabbed her wrist.
