Halsey pressed her small hands against his chest and pushed him away. “Stop it…”

Sham kissed her cheek, then her soft hair. “You look absolutely stunning tonight.”

He was showering her with praise.

Halsey’s cheeks flushed. She and Madeline had spent a long time getting ready in the room, just for this moment to see him.

“Mr. Lane…”

“Call me by my name.”

“Shaun!”

Shaun silenced her again with another kiss.

Halsey felt him gently part her lips, and she could taste the dry, rich scent of alcohol on his breath. It was strong, but smooth and intoxicating.

The luxury car was parked on the side of the road, and all the noise of the outside world felt far away. All she could hear was the sound of his kisses. Her face was burning red.

His hands soon started to wander, reaching for the hem of her dress.

Halsey quickly grabbed her skirt. “No, stop!”

She was trying to stop him, struggling slightly. In the process, her hand accidentally brushed against the mask on his face, and it fell off.

She saw his face–the one that had been disfigured.

Shaun froze for a second. “Sorry.”

He reached down quickly to grab the mask, trying to put it back on.

But Halsey stopped him. She held his hand down, looking at him. “Why are you apologizing? What are you sorry for?”

Shaun’s expression was hidden in the dim light, unreadable. “My face… It’s ruined. I know I’m ugly now. I’m sorry if I scared you.”

Halsey’s heart clenched. She knew it bothered him. He used to be so incredibly handsome.

She didn’t respond, but sometimes silence says everything. Shaun gave a faint smile.

“This face probably won’t ever heal. I’ve seen a lot of doctors, but nothing’s worked.”

Then Halsey reached out. Her soft fingertips gently touched his face. noveldrama

Shaun caught her hand, trying to move it away.

But she kept tracing the lines of his face. “You were so good–looking before. Back in school, all those rich girls lined up just your girlfriend.”

Shaun said nothing.

Halsey looked into his eyes. “Now your face is

like this, but there are still women who fall for you. You’re just a natural at charming women, I guess.” 

Shaun tried to put the mask back on.

But Halsey suddenly turned and straddled his lap, cupping his face in both hands. Her soft lips landed on his scarred cheek.

She started kissing his face.

Shaun went completely still. He thought she would avoid looking at his face. But instead, she was kissing him.

“Do you even know what you’re doing?”

“Of course I do. I’m kissing you.”

Halsey kissed his face again, then leaned in and kissed his lips.

Shaun’s blood ran hot, and all the desire he’d been holding back surged through him, tightening every muscle in his body.

In an instant, he took control, pulling her into a deep, fiery kiss.

Halsey kissed him back with just as much heat. Soon, the strap of her dress slid off her shoulder, and Shaun’s kisses moved lower.

Halsey held onto his head, her fingers weaving into his short, neatly cut hair. She didn’t know what she wanted–whether to pull him closer or push him away.

Shaun’s voice was rough and hoarse. “Halsey.”

“Hm?”

“Give yourself to me. I want you.”

Shaun started lifting the hem of her dress.

Just then, Halsey spotted Madeline and Martin coming out of the supermarket. She gasped and froze. “No, stop! Maddy and Martin are coming back! Stop now!”
