Halsey didn’t really know what other people felt when they were in love. But her feelings for Shaun burned hot and deep– unchanged from three years ago until now.

Still, there was a three–year gap between them, and she had so many questions she wanted to ask him. Yet, she didn’t even know where to begin.

Halsey returned to the living room. “He said he’s free tonight.”

Cyril’s face brightened. “That’s great! I’ll have the secretary book a place.”

Madeline tugged on Halsey’s arm. “Come on. Let’s pick out our dresses for tonight.”

Patricia smiled happily. “Go ahead and get ready. I even ordered some custom dresses for you just yesterday.”

Patricia was stylish and doted on her daughters. She loved dressing them up, treating them like real little princesses. “Okay, we’ll be upstairs.”

After going upstairs, Halsey and Madeline stepped into the room and opened the closet, which was filled with custom–made dresses.

Madeline held up a dress, comparing it to Halsey. “What color do you want to wear? This one’s pretty, and so is this one. I can’t decide! It’s all your fault–you look good in everything.”

Halsey pinched Madeline’s cheek gently. “You and your sweet mouth.”

“Shaun’s coming tonight, so you have to look absolutely stunning. Make him totally crazy about you!”

Dress up for him?

Halsey blushed. “But he and Chelsea…”

“He’s not into her at all. She’s nowhere near as pretty as you. You’re the only sister–in–law I’ll ever want,” Madeline said with a happy smile.

Halsey hugged Madeline, then picked out a black slip dress.

“I’ll wear this one.”

“Perfect! And then I’ll do your makeup just right! I bet Shaun won’t be able to take his eyes off you tonight!”

Halsey didn’t want to make such a big deal of it, but Madeline didn’t take no for an answer. She pushed Halsey in front of the vanity and started working on her makeup.

Shaun smiled. “Professor Lincoln, I will always be your student.”

Cyril nodded approvingly. “I knew you were no ordinary talent back then. You’ve exceeded even my expectations. You make me hopeful about the new generation.”

There was genuine admiration in Cyril’s eyes for Shaun.

“You’re too kind, Professor Lincoln,” Shaun replied modestly.

Patricia gestured to the seats. “Mr. Lane, please have a seat.”

Shaun’s secretary pulled out a chair and Shaun sat down, scanning the room. He noticed Halsey and Madeline weren’t there yet.

“Ms. Halsey and Maddy aren’t here yet?”

Patricia checked the time. “Those two have been messing around in their room for a while. They asked us to go ahead without them. I’m sure they’ll be here soon.”

No sooner had she spoken than the door swung open. Madeline came in, pulling Halsey behind her.

“Hey, Shaun. We’re here!” Madeline called out happily.

She nudged Halsey forward. “Doesn’t Halsey look beautiful tonight?”

Shaun fixed his eyes on Halsey and didn’t look away.
