Shaun froze for a moment. “Maddy!”

Madeline took off running toward him.

Without hesitation, Shaun reached out and pulled her into his arms.

Tears streamed down Madeline’s cheeks as she buried her face against his chest, choking on her sobs. “Is it really you? I recognized you that day… I knew you were my brother! Why didn’t you tell me who you were?”

That day, Shaun had disguised himself as a cab driver. She had known it was him, but he had denied it.

Shaun held her tighter, unsure if his scarred face would frighten her. Sometimes he wished the person he was back then–the one Halsey and Madeline remembered–could stay frozen in time. He really hoped they would never see his now ruined face.

“Where have you been all these years? Why didn’t you come back? Halsey and I have missed you so much! Didn’t you miss us at all?” Madeline sobbed uncontrollably.

Shaun rocked her gently. “I think about you both every day. I miss you more than you know.”

Their parents were gone now. In this world, he only had Halsey and Madeline left.

One was the woman he loved, the other his flesh and blood. Those were two people he could never let go of, no matter what.

Chelsea stood frozen, her mind blank as if struck by lightning. She had never imagined Madeline was actually Shaun’s sister.

This was bad. She couldn’t believe she had just offended Shaun’s sister!

Warren smiled warmly. “Alright, Maddy, don’t cry anymore. Today’s a happy day. You finally reunited with Shaun!”

Shaun reached up and wiped away Madeline’s tears. “Yeah, your eyes are gonna be puffy if you keep ying.”

Madeline fought back the tears. “I almost didn’t

get to see you today!”

Shaun frowned. “What do you mean?”

Madeline glanced over at the receptionist. “She wouldn’t let me see you! She’s just a receptionist, but she has such a big attitude

-she’s too busy flattering people to actually work!“e 

The receptionist’s legs went weak. Now that she knew Madeline was truly Shaun’s sister, she realized she was finished. She had crossed the boss’s sister!

“Mr. Lane, I can explain-”

Shaun cut her off coldly. “No need to explain. Security, get her out of here, now!”

The black–suited security guards stepped

to grab the receptionist.

The woman looked toward Chelsea desperately. “Ms. Sutton, help me! I was only doing what you told me! I’m on your side!”

Chelsea snapped at her, “Shut up!”

Shaun turned to Chelsea. “What is she talking about?”

Chelsea forced a smile. “Please hear me out. I didn’t know Maddy was your sister, so there was just a little misunderstanding between us.”

Madeline sneered. “A little misunderstanding? Then why did you have people throw me out?”

Chelsea opened her mouth to explain, but Madeline interrupted.

“Shaun!” she said, looking straight at Shaun. “I have a question what’s your relationship with Chelsea? Is she your girlfriend?

Shaun hesitated. “She…”

“If she’s your girlfriend, then I’ll never acknowledge you as my brother ever again!”

“Maddy, what’s gotten into you?” Warren quickly interjected. “There must be some kind of misunderstanding!”

Madeline shook her head firmly. “There isn’t. I’ll only acknowledge Halsey as my future sister–in–law.”

Warren sneered, “Do you know what Halsey did to Shaun three years ago? She was the one who abandoned him! These past years, Chelsea’s been by his side…”
