Stanley turned and walked away.

“Bye.” Jessica waved goodbye to Wendy before hurrying after him ‘Stanley, waif up!”

Ida turned to Horace, saying, “I’ll see you around.”

Then, she followed after them.

Bella looked up at Wendy, her voice small and confused. “Mommy, why did Daddy go off with that bad lady? I don’t like her. She’s mean to you…”

Wendy glanced toward where Stanley and Jessica had disappeared, then smiled gently. “Grown–up things are complicated. Just remember that your Daddy and I love you, and will always be with you.”

Bella nodded happily. “Okay!”

Brittany looked at Wendy with concern. “Are you okay?”

She was worried about Wendy’s mood.

Wendy shook her head. “I’m fine.”

Halsey scowled. “Jessica really knows how to stir the pot. Saying she’ll have Stanley’s son? Like that’s something she could control!”

Suddenly, Wendy frowned and bent over, vomiting.

She hadn’t eaten much that day, so there wasn’t much to come up, but the queasy feeling was overwhelming.

Horace and Brittany grew anxious. “What’s wrong? Are you feeling sick?”

“Did you eat something bad?” Angela asked.

Wendy lifted her hand to her wrist, feeling her pulse. A faint shiver passed through her slender fingers.

Halsey’s voice was urgent. “What’s going on?”

Wendy said quietly, “I’m pregnant.” 3

Hearing that Wendy was pregnant, Horace, Brittany, Angela, and Halsey didn’t hesitate. They rushed her to the hospital for

tests.

Even though Wendy was a doctor, she still needed professional prenatal care.

Soon, the doctor came out. Everyone crowded around.

“How is Wendy?”

“Congratulations,” the doctor said, “Ms. Crone is definitely pregnant. And she’s expecting twins!”

Wendy was having twins.

Angela gasped. “Twins? Oh, my! Wendy’s having twins! We’ve never had twins in our family before. Wendy’s such a blessing!”

Wendy came out of the exam room.

Brittany caught her, beaming. “You’re having twins!”

Wendy wasn’t surprised. When she took her pulse earlier, she already sensed it.

She hadn’t used birth control the time she was with Stanley, and hadn’t taken any medication afterward. She never expected to get pregnant again, let alone with twins.

Even Wendy hadn’t anticipated that. 1

“Carrying twins is tough,” Angela said. “You need to rest. I’m going to call Stanley. He’ll be so happy to hear the news!”

Angela reached for her phone to call.

But Wendy stopped her. “Don’t call him.”

Angela hesitated. “He will want to know. If he knows you’re pregnant, he definitely won’t marry Jessica.”

Wendy’s expression was firm. “That’s why I can’t tell him. For his sake, he can’t know about the pregnancy.” Stanley was trapped by the Heartchain Curse. He would die if he came back.

Halsey frowned. “But that’s not fair to you!”

Wendy rested her hand on her belly, feeling the new life growing there–two little angels on the way.

“I’ll handle things with Stanley in my own time. For now, you all stay out of it. I’ll tell him when the moment is right.”
