Chapter 1167
All Ivy had to do was crook a finger, and Nathan would come running?
Ivy wasn’t nearly that optimistic.
Still, since Nathan clearly didn’t want a divorce, she decided she would take this marriage seriously and make it work.
“You can get back to work,” she said.
“Alright.”
Madge left the office looking unusually cheerful.
Ivy pulled out her design drafts and returned to work, focusing on refining the details of her latest project.
Before long, the workday ended.
Ivy left the studio and drove back to the villa.
Wanda hurried out to greet her the moment she walked in. “Mrs. Lowe, how did the checkup go today?”
Ivy smiled. “Everything’s normal. The baby’s healthy.”
“That’s wonderful news! Dinner’s ready. Come eat while it’s hot.”
Ivy sat down at the dining table while Wanda brought out a spread of comforting dishes.
“Did Mr. Lowe go with you to the appointment today?” Wanda asked.
Ivy looked up at her. “Yes, he did. Honestly, you’ve misunderstood Nathan. He’s actually been very good to me.”
Wanda shook her head. “Not good enough. You’re pregnant. He should be by your side all the time. His family’s rich enough already—what’s the point of earning more money? You and the baby matter more than business.”
Since marrying into the Lowe family, Ivy had received genuine care from both Keith and Wanda.
It was a kind of warmth she had never once felt growing up in the Quinn family. She truly appreciated it.
“Thank you, but Nathan really does treat me well. Please don’t criticize him anymore.”
Wanda sighed but smiled. “Alright, alright. Now eat before it gets cold.”
Ivy picked up her fork and began eating.
After dinner, she returned to her room, took a warm shower, and changed into comfortable clothes.
Just as she settled onto the bed, her phone rang.
She glanced at the screen.
It was her father.
Every time Ivy taught Kate a lesson, Edric’s call followed right after.
No surprise there.
He was probably calling to scold her again.
Ivy answered. “Hi, Dad.”
Edric’s voice came through, cold and distant. “I heard you caused trouble for Kate again today.”
Ivy let out a soft, humorless laugh. “Did she complain to you already? For the record, she tried to hurt my unborn child and me first.”
“What…” Edric paused, clearly restraining himself. “I heard you’re pregnant.”
“You can drop the ‘heard.’ I am pregnant.”
He snorted. “No wonder you’ve become so arrogant. You think carrying the Lowe family’s child gives you leverage.”
“And if it does?” Ivy replied calmly. “What about it?”
A gentle voice suddenly came from the background.
“Don’t argue with Ivy,” Noelle said softly. “Since she’s pregnant, why not invite her and Mr. Lowe over for dinner? Ever since the marriage alliance, she hasn’t brought him home once.”
The suggestion sounded harmless, but Ivy knew better.
Edric immediately agreed. “Let’s not argue. Since you’re expecting, bring Mr. Lowe home for dinner.”
“Why would I bring Nathan back?” Ivy asked bluntly.
Noelle never did anything without a motive. There was no way this dinner invitation was innocent. She probably wanted to see for herself whether Ivy’s marriage was truly stable.
Edric continued, “Your grandpa’s seventieth birthday is in two days. He’s always cared about you. Aren’t you going to bring your husband home?”
Ivy paused.
Right. Roger’s seventieth birthday was coming up.
At that moment, another call came through.
She glanced at the screen.
Speak of the devil.
