The Heartbreak Prescription Chapter 1166
Ivy rolled her eyes, but she couldn’t stop the faint smile tugging at her lips.
“You make it sound so easy.”
Madge shrugged. “It is easy. You just overthink everything.”
Ivy leaned back in her chair, one hand resting over her stomach.
Overthink.
Maybe she did.
She had spent so long calculating every move—how to approach Nathan, how to win him over, how to secure a child—that somewhere along the way, she forgot how to just… feel.
Back then, every smile, every clingy hug, every soft “Nathan” had a purpose.
Now?
Now she actually cared.
That was the difference.
Madge watched her carefully. “You’re scared.”
Ivy didn’t deny it. “Of course I am. I lied to him. I pushed him into this. What if he never really forgives me?”
Madge softened. “He already stayed. That says a lot.”
Ivy thought about the way Nathan had torn up the divorce agreement without hesitation. The way his voice hardened when he said he wanted the baby. The way he’d adjusted her seat belt so carefully, making sure it didn’t press against her stomach.
He hadn’t walked away.
He could have.
But he didn’t.
“I don’t want to lose him,” Ivy admitted quietly.
“Then don’t,” Madge said simply. “Stop acting like you’re preparing for the worst. Act like you plan to keep him.”
Ivy let out a slow breath.
Keep him.
Not trap him.
Not manipulate him.
Keep him.
“There’s a difference between clinging and choosing someone,” Madge added. “Before, you were clinging because you wanted something. This time, choose him because you want him.”
The words settled deep.
Ivy’s gaze sharpened slightly. “You’re surprisingly wise today.”
Madge grinned. “Pregnancy glow makes people philosophical.”
Ivy laughed softly, the tension in her shoulders easing.
She thought about Nathan again—his pride, his sharp edges, the quiet protectiveness he tried so hard to hide.
He had taken a step toward her.
Now it was her turn.
But not with tricks.
Not with schemes.
This time, she would be honest.
“I won’t bring up divorce again,” she murmured, more to herself than to Madge. “And I won’t push him away to prove a point.”
Madge clapped her hands once. “That’s my girl.”
Ivy stood up slowly.
“Where are you going?” Madge asked.
“To work,” Ivy replied, but there was a new steadiness in her voice. “And later… maybe I’ll ask him to have dinner with me.”
Madge’s eyes lit up. “Look at you making moves.”
Ivy smiled, a quiet determination settling in her chest.
Nathan wasn’t just the father of her child.
He was her husband.
And this time, she was going to fight for him—for real.
