The Heartbreak Prescription Chapter 1161
When Ivy started to fall backward, the happiest person in the room was Kate. A slow smile curved across her lips as she waited for the impact.
If the baby were gone, everything would be solved.
She wanted that child erased.
Ivy’s body tipped out of control. Instinct took over, and she wrapped both arms tightly around her stomach.
The baby!
Out of nowhere, a strong arm shot forward and caught her around the waist. Instead of crashing to the floor, she fell against a solid, steady chest.
She looked up—and Nathan’s face filled her vision.
Her mind went blank. She had no idea why he was here.
Kate froze. She hadn’t expected Nathan to show up either.
“Ivy!” Madge rushed over, breathless. “Ivy, are you okay? Mr. Lowe!”
Nathan kept one arm firm around Ivy as he helped her stand upright. His voice dropped low and tense. “Did you get hurt?”
Still shaken, Ivy pressed a hand against her stomach and slowly shook her head. “I’m fine.”
“Nate!” Kate called, forcing her voice to steady.
Nathan’s gaze turned cold when it landed on her. “What were you doing?”
Kate swallowed. “I was trying to help Ivy. I reached out to catch her, but she slipped on her own. Good thing you showed up when you did, or she could’ve been seriously hurt.”
Madge immediately shot back, “Since when are you that kind? Looked to me like you pushed her.”
Nathan glanced down at Ivy. “What happened?”
Ivy parted her lips, but Kate cut in first. “Ivy, I didn’t push you. I swear!”
A short, humorless laugh escaped Ivy.
Kate could lie without blinking. It was almost impressive.
“I haven’t even said anything yet,” Ivy said evenly, “and you’re already denying it. Feeling guilty?”
“I…” Kate faltered.
“You pushed me,” Ivy said, her voice sharp and clear. “Stop pretending.”
Madge’s face flushed with anger. “Kate, I can’t believe you’d go after Ivy’s baby. Mr. Lowe, you can’t just let this slide. She needs to be taught a lesson!”
Kate’s face drained of color. She had never imagined Nathan would witness this. Would he really take Ivy’s side?
“Nate, you have to believe me. I didn’t push her! You can’t accuse someone without proof!” she insisted, clinging desperately to her story.
Nathan ignored the act. His eyes returned to Ivy. “How do you want to handle this?”
Ivy’s heart skipped.
Was he really asking her? If she said the word, would he step in—for her? For their baby?
She looked at Kate’s pale face, then back at Nathan. “I don’t want to see her. Make her leave.”
This wasn’t the time for a bigger scene.
Nathan pressed his lips into a thin line. “Get out.”
“Fine. I’m leaving.” Kate turned and hurried away.
Madge stepped closer. “Ivy, are you sure you’re okay?”
Ivy nodded. Nathan’s arm was still around her waist, their bodies closer than they should have been.
She looked up at him. “Why are you at the hospital?”
Nathan finally let go. “Wanda told me you were here. Why didn’t you tell me about your prenatal checkup?”
