The Heartbreak Prescription Chapter 1160
The next second, Ivy saw a familiar face.
It wasn’t Madge at all.
It was Kate—her lingering, impossible-to-shake half-sister.
Kate looked at Ivy with a smile that never reached her eyes. “Why are you at the hospital?”
“Shouldn’t I be asking you that?” Ivy shot back coolly. “What are you doing here?”
“My friend twisted her ankle, so I came with her,” Kate replied smoothly. “I didn’t expect to run into you. Are you here for a prenatal checkup?”
Ivy didn’t believe in coincidences. There was no way this was random. Kate had clearly followed her to the hospital.
Ivy let out a cold laugh. “I’m here for a prenatal checkup. Do I need to report that to you?”
“Of course not,” Kate said quickly, then glanced around. “But… did you come alone? Where’s Nate? I don’t see him anywhere.”
Kate had tracked her down on purpose.
She didn’t know whether Nathan had overheard her earlier conversation with Ivy. She also didn’t know whether Nathan and Ivy had already fallen out. She needed confirmation.
If Nathan really had broken things off with Ivy, then it was time for her to make her move.
Ivy knew exactly what Kate was thinking. She rose slowly to her feet.
“You seem awfully comfortable calling him Nate,” Ivy said coolly. “Funny how you still remember he’s your brother-in-law. With how anxious you are, anyone would think you’re trying to claim him for yourself.
“Then again, your mother spent years wrecking other people’s marriages. If she raised a smaller version of herself, that’s hardly surprising.
“Like mother, like daughter. You both seem to enjoy tearing families apart and stealing what belongs to someone else.”
Kate clenched her fists.
She did want Nathan. She wanted to take him—and she felt no shame about it.
She hated Ivy.
Why did all the good men in the world end up with Ivy and Tabitha? Didn’t she and Noelle deserve to marry well, too?
Kate forced her anger down. This wasn’t the time to explode. What mattered now was finding out whether Ivy and Nathan were truly finished.
“Ivy,” Kate sneered, “are you saying all this because you’re embarrassed?”
“Embarrassed?” Ivy shot back. “Why would I be?”
“Because you came to the hospital alone—and Nate didn’t come with you.”
Even if things between her and Nathan were strained, Ivy wasn’t about to let Kate see it. Even if she and Nathan divorced, that news wouldn’t be made public within a year.
Ivy smiled coldly. “Sorry to disappoint you, but I didn’t come alone today. Nathan came with me.”
“Then where is he?” Kate demanded.
“Why should I tell you?” Ivy replied flatly. “Mind your own life.”
With that, she turned and started to walk away.
“No—don’t go!” Kate lunged forward and grabbed her arm.
Ivy’s expression darkened. “Who said you could touch me? Let go.”
“You said Nate’s in the hospital,” Kate said tightly. “I just want to see him. Is that not allowed?”
“It’s not. Let go. Now.”
Ivy tried to pull free, but Kate tightened her grip.
“Stop struggling,” Kate warned coldly. “You’re pregnant. If something happens, I won’t be responsible.”
As she spoke, a vicious thought flashed through Kate’s mind.
Nathan wasn’t here anyway.
So why not deal with the problem right now? Why not get rid of the child in Ivy’s belly while she had the chance?
Kate shoved Ivy hard.
“Aah!”
Ivy fell backward,
