The Heartbreak Prescription Chapter 1153
Nathan stepped closer. Ivy couldn’t help but retreat, keenly aware of the chill radiating from him.
Even though his face showed no emotion, the coldness surrounding him was suffocating.
Ivy felt guilty, but fear and panic overwhelmed everything else.
Nathan had arrived long ago. Had he heard everything?
“I…” Ivy started.
Catching the evasiveness in her eyes, Nathan curled his lips into a cold smile. “Why aren’t you talking now? Don’t you have anything you want to say to me?”
Ivy backed up until she hit the edge of the desk, with nowhere left to retreat.
She could only ask again, “You got here a while ago, didn’t you? And you heard everything Kate and I said?”
Nathan stopped in front of her. His tall frame cast a shadow over her. “This is when you answer my questions. Let me ask you—do you have anything you want to say to me?”
The barely restrained anger in his eyes made it instantly clear. He had heard it all.
Since he already knew, there was no point in hiding it anymore. The pregnancy would come out sooner or later anyway.
Ivy took a deep breath and looked at him. “Nathan, I’m pregnant.”
The moment Nathan heard her say it out loud, his face darkened.
“You did this on purpose, didn’t you? Every time I wanted to use protection, you said it was a safe period, that you wouldn’t get pregnant. You lied to me.”
“I’m sorry,” Ivy said. “I can be honest with you now. You’ve probably heard something about my family situation. I had to get pregnant. Only then could I secure the support of my grandfather—and yours. I won’t let anyone take what belongs to me. For that, I’m willing to do anything.”
Nathan reached out, gripping the back of Ivy’s head and forcing her to look up at him. “Then what am I? Tell me. What exactly am I to you?”
Ivy’s fingers curled slightly. “Even though our marriage was arranged, you’re still my husband.”
Nathan laughed in anger. “What a perfectly official answer. And when you said you loved me—that was fake too, right? I was just someone you were using.”
“We’re both adults,” Ivy said calmly. “I admit I used you when it came to getting pregnant. But everything that happened between us in bed these past days was mutual. Didn’t you enjoy it, too?”
Nathan’s temples throbbed with rage. “Ivy, if all I wanted was that kind of pleasure, there are plenty of women I could choose from. I wouldn’t need a liar like you.”
Ivy’s face went pale. Was what she feared most about to happen?
She had secretly gotten pregnant, knowing she would have to face the consequences. She didn’t know what Nathan would do. Would he divorce her?
Her mind raced. Right now, she desperately needed the status of Mrs. Lowe.
But if Nathan insisted on divorcing her, she wasn’t completely afraid either.
After all, the child she carried bore the bloodline of the Lowe family—the very first bloodline of the entire Lowe Group empire.
Between Nathan and the child, she would choose the child without hesitation.
Her lashes trembled. “I’m really sorry, Nathan. I know you’re angry. You can do whatever you want, but I have to keep this baby.”
Nathan stared at the unnervingly calm woman in front of him, his teeth grinding with hatred.
