The Heartbreak Prescription Chapter 1146
Edric was so furious he couldn’t speak. Then, suddenly, a gentle, soft voice came through the phone into Ivy’s car.
“This is all my fault. If you’re angry, take it out on me. Kate is innocent.”
Ivy recognized the voice instantly. It was Noelle Parsons—the longtime mistress Edric had kept hidden for years.
“Ivy, if you won’t forgive me, I’ll go find your mother right now,” Noelle sobbed. “I’ll kneel before her and beg for her forgiveness.”
Ivy’s heart clenched. This woman knew exactly where to strike.
Tabitha had battled depression for years. The last time Noelle showed up at their door, Ivy had come home to find her mother lying in bed after swallowing an entire bottle of sleeping pills.
If Ivy hadn’t rushed her to the hospital in time, Tabitha would have been gone.
Back then, Ivy had caused a huge scene. Only then had Edric promised that Noelle would never come again—never appear in front of Tabitha.
And now, Noelle wanted to go see her again.
She was always like this, using the softest tone to say the cruelest things, stabbing Ivy straight through the heart every single time.
Ivy’s expression turned icy.
“I dare you to go anywhere near my mother. See what happens.”
“How dare you speak to Noelle like that!” Edric roared. “I’ve spoiled you too much. This is all your mother’s fault for failing to teach you properly! I’m taking Noelle to see your mother right now, and I’ll ask her how she raised you all these years!”
Ivy felt completely hollow. Edric kept shattering her expectations, again and again.
She couldn’t let them go near her mother. Tabitha wouldn’t be able to handle it.
She was stuck in the Capital and couldn’t fly back at all. If something happened to her mother, what would she do?
Ivy clenched her phone tightly. “If you touch my mom, there’s nothing I won’t do. You’d better not push me.”
The moment the words left her mouth, she felt warmth settle over her shoulders.
She turned around and saw Nathan standing on the balcony, having come out at some point without her noticing. He draped his black coat over her shoulders.
Her body, cold just moments ago, was instantly wrapped in warmth.
Nathan looked at her. He had never seen this expression on her face before—her eyes red and glassy, filled with anger and helplessness. The vulnerability made her look heartbreakingly fragile.
“Is that your dad?” he asked.
Ivy nodded.
“I’ll talk to him,” Nathan said.
Before she could react, Nathan took the phone from her hand. “Hi, Dad. It’s me, Nathan.”
Hearing Nathan’s name, Edric froze on the other end.
Although the marriage had lasted three years, Nathan had never once visited the Quinn family home.
Edric quickly composed himself. The rage in his voice disappeared, replaced by caution. “Oh… hey, Nathan.”
“Mom isn’t in good health,” Nathan said calmly. “She needs peace and rest. Ivy and I don’t want anyone disturbing her. I think you understand what I mean.”
Ivy’s lashes trembled as she looked at the man beside her.
Was he… standing up for her?
Edric didn’t hesitate. “Don’t worry. No one will disturb her.”
“That’s good,” Nathan replied. “Get some rest.”
He ended the call and handed the phone back to Ivy.
Ivy was deeply moved. No one understood better than she did how much weight Nathan’s words carried. Edric and Noelle had dared to provoke her only because they believed Nathan had no emotional investment in this marriage.
All it took was Nathan speaking up—and everything changed.
