Nathan clearly enjoyed her sweet talk. His lips curved into a smile. “With all the tricks you pull at night, do you really think I’d get tired of you?”

Ivy’s face flushed. Now that she was pregnant, she needed to behave herself. Everything from before was officially in the past.

“My stomach has been acting weird today,” Ivy said.

Nathan paused, his expression turning serious. “What’s wrong with your stomach? Have you seen a doctor?”

“My period is about to come. I feel a little uncomfortable, so let’s not do it tonight,” Ivy replied.

Nathan immediately loosened his hold on her. “Alright. I get it. Go take your shower.”

“Okay,” Ivy said.

She walked into the bathroom.

Watching the door close behind her, Nathan smiled faintly. He lifted the blanket, got into bed, and handled some work on his phone.

When Ivy finished showering and came out, she saw that Nathan was busy and didn’t disturb him. Just then, her phone rang.

She glanced at the screen. It was Edric.

Ivy wasn’t surprised at all. She had known he would call—just not this soon.

She stepped onto the balcony and answered. “Hello, Dad.”

Edric’s voice came through, barely containing his anger. “So you still remember I’m your dad? I thought I was already dead to you.”

There was no emotion in Ivy’s eyes, only faint mockery. “What exactly are you so angry about?”

Edric snapped, “Don’t play dumb! You know exactly why I’m angry. I finally got Kate into Quinn Corporation, and today your grandpa had HR fire her. They even threw all her belongings outside. Everyone watched her get humiliated. She came home crying her eyes out.”

“So Kate cried,” Ivy said calmly. “What does that have to do with me?”

“How long are you going to keep pretending? You must have told your grandpa. That’s why he gave the order.”

Ivy tightened her grip on the phone.

“Since you already know I did it, why did you still call me?” she asked softly. “Aren’t you afraid I’ll make one phone call to Grandpa and tell him you’re disturbing my rest? He’d probably have all your calls blocked.”

“Ivy!” Edric shouted.

“I’ve called you Dad for so many years,” Ivy said coolly, “but did you really think I ever saw you as my father?”

“I can’t believe I have such an ungrateful daughter.”

“I’m not ungrateful,” Ivy replied. “I was never your daughter to begin with. Have you ever treated me like your daughter for even one day? You only ever had Kate in your heart.”
