The Heartbreak Prescription Chapter 1144
“No. Do you need something?” Ivy replied. “I’m a little busy right now, and I have a meeting later.”
Nathan paused before saying, “I might be home a bit late tonight.”
“Okay,” Ivy said. “I might be late too.”
Nathan sighed softly. “Alright. I’ll let you get back to work.”
They said goodbye, and Ivy hung up.
Nathan lowered his phone and frowned slightly. For some reason, he sensed a subtle shift in her tone. Maybe she really was just busy.
“Mr. Lowe, it’s time for the meeting,” Baxter reminded him.
Nathan stood. “Let’s go.”
He didn’t get home until around eight. Wanda immediately stepped forward. “Mr. Lowe, welcome home.”
Seeing the smile on her face, Nathan asked, “Did something good happen today? You look unusually happy.”
Wanda smiled. “Today really is a happy day.”
Nathan raised an eyebrow. “What’s the good news?”
Remembering Ivy’s instructions, Wanda shook her head. “I can’t tell you.”
Nathan chuckled. Even Wanda was acting mysterious now.
He glanced around but didn’t see Ivy. “Has Ivy not come back yet?”
“It’s getting late, so I called Mrs. Lowe,” Wanda replied. “She said she’s already on her way home and will be back soon. Honestly, with how wealthy the Lowe family is, Mrs. Lowe doesn’t really need to work at all.”
“If she enjoys working, let her,” Nathan said calmly. “Women shouldn’t be confined by family and marriage. She has a career she likes.”
Wanda nodded. “That’s true. You should go upstairs and take a shower first.”
Nathan went up to the bedroom and took a cold shower. Just as he turned off the water, he heard movement outside.
Ivy was back.
He changed into his pajamas and stepped out. Sure enough, she was there.
She slipped off her coat, revealing a white sweater dress underneath. Her long hair fell smoothly over her shoulders. She wasn’t wearing makeup, and she looked especially fresh and natural.
Nathan lifted his brows slightly. “You’re back.”
Ivy reached up to remove her pearl earrings and glanced at him. “Yeah. You’re done showering?”
“Just finished,” Nathan replied. “Do you want to wash up?”
“Yeah.”
She reached back to pull down the zipper but couldn’t quite reach it. “Help me unzip it.”
Standing with her back to him, she swept her hair aside, exposing her slender neck.
Nathan stepped closer and pulled the zipper down.
They were so close he could smell her—no perfume, just her natural scent.
“It’s unzipped,” he said.
“Thanks,” Ivy replied.
She was about to head into the bathroom when his arm suddenly wrapped around her waist from behind.
Her body stiffened as his tall frame pressed close. He leaned down and brushed a kiss against her hair near her ear.
Her lashes fluttered. “What are you doing?”
He kissed her hair again. “Aren’t you going to shower?”
“Yeah.”
“Want to shower together?”
Ivy turned her head to look at him. “Didn’t you already shower?”
“I feel like taking another one,” Nathan said.
As he spoke, he leaned in to kiss her.
But Ivy turned her head away, avoiding his lips.
Nathan frowned. “Why did you dodge?”
She had never dodged him before. In the past, she had always been the one to take the initiative.
