The Heartbreak Prescription Chapter 1143
The earlier sense of ease weighed on her again. Ivy remembered she still had to face Nathan, and she couldn’t predict how he would react.
He would definitely be angry. Furious, even.
Still, the child she was carrying was Keith’s precious great-grandson. With Keith backing her, there was no real reason to be this nervous.
Thinking it through, Ivy felt lighter.
“Mr. Lowe left early this morning,” Wanda said. “Do you want to call him and share the good news?”
Ivy shook her head. “Don’t tell him about the pregnancy yet. I’ll wait for the right moment and tell him myself.”
Wanda nodded. “Alright.”
“I’ll head to work after breakfast.”
“I know you still want to work even though you’re pregnant,” Wanda said gently, “but you should cut back a little. From now on, everything comes second to the baby.”
Ivy placed a hand over her lower abdomen. “Don’t worry. I’m the baby’s mother. No one is looking forward to his arrival more than I am.”
Nathan had been buried in work all day.
He had cleared his entire schedule yesterday to take Ivy out, so a mountain of tasks had piled up waiting for him. By the time he finished, it was already afternoon.
Baxter placed a cup of coffee beside him. “Mr. Lowe, your coffee.”
“Thanks.”
Nathan took a sip, then picked up his phone.
The screen was empty.
Ivy hadn’t sent him a single message.
Yesterday, she’d been blowing up his phone, even bringing homemade soup to the office to see him. Today, she had completely disappeared.
Nathan smiled helplessly. Sometimes, he really had no idea what Ivy was thinking.
“Mr. Lowe,” Baxter asked, “why are you smiling? Did something good happen?”
Nathan replied, “Do you think women are all like this?”
“Like what?”
“One moment warm, the next distant. Like a complete mystery.”
Baxter didn’t answer. He just smiled.
Nathan glanced at him. “And what are you smiling about now?”
“Did Mrs. Lowe not contact you today?”
Nathan paused. “How did you know?”
“I’ve noticed that whenever Mrs. Lowe ignores you, your face practically has a giant question mark written all over it. Have you realized you’re becoming more and more invested in Mrs. Lowe—and that your mood always follows hers?”
Nathan was silent for a moment. “Does it?”
“Of course it does,” Baxter said. “When Mrs. Lowe is affectionate, you’re in a good mood. When she’s distant, you’re not. Honestly, even though you’ve been married for years, it feels like you and Mrs. Lowe are dating now.”
Dating.
The word felt unfamiliar to Nathan.
An arranged marriage was still a marriage. When he married Ivy, he’d never planned on getting divorced.
At first, he’d expected mutual respect—nothing more than keeping up appearances for the family. He hadn’t expected their lives to become so intertwined.
And he realized he actually liked how things were between him and Ivy.
If this really counted as dating, it didn’t sound bad at all.
After all, they were legally married.
Nathan set his coffee down, picked up his phone, and called Ivy.
The pleasant ringtone rang several times before the call was answered in a rush.
Ivy’s soft voice came through. “Hello. Why do you suddenly have time to call me?”
Nathan could hear papers rustling on her end. She was busy. “What—am I not allowed to call you?”
