The Heartbreak Prescription Chapter 1139
Ivy had never seen anything like this before. She stared at the screen in disbelief.
“Nathan, what kind of movie is this supposed to be?”
Nathan was momentarily at a loss for words. He had clearly told Baxter to book a romance film—but somehow, Baxter had gotten creative and chosen this.
“This has nothing to do with me,” Nathan said quickly. “Baxter booked it!”
Ivy shot him a skeptical look. “Yeah, right. Like I’d believe that.”
Nathan knew there was no escaping it. He rushed to explain again. “I swear, I didn’t pick this.”
Ivy didn’t even look at him. Her eyes stayed on the screen. “Why are you so nervous? I didn’t blame you. Let’s just watch.”
She watched with bright, curious eyes, as if she were seeing a movie for the very first time. Something about that expression made her look even more innocent, more pure, and Nathan’s gaze lingered on her without him realizing it.
“What’s the male lead’s name?” Ivy asked suddenly.
“No idea,” Nathan replied. “Why do you care?”
She shrugged. “Just curious. He’s pretty good-looking.”
Nathan’s expression darkened. He slid an arm around Ivy’s slim waist and pulled her into his embrace. “You really think he’s handsome?”
She nodded without hesitation. “Yeah. Don’t you?”
“I think he looks average,” Nathan said coolly. “Are you saying he’s better looking than me?”
Only then did Ivy catch the unmistakable jealousy in his voice. Was he seriously competing with a movie actor?
She smiled, lips curving sweetly. “Of course not. He doesn’t even come close. You’re way more handsome.”
The moment she said it, Nathan lowered his head and kissed her.
Ivy froze for a split second. She hadn’t expected that—especially not after he had firmly refused to touch her just last night.
So that was it, she thought. Pleasing a man really wasn’t that hard. A few well-chosen words, a little sweetness, and he was completely disarmed.
She placed her hands against his chest and pushed him back slightly. “Nathan, we’re in a movie theater.”
Nathan studied her flushed, delicate face. With the movie playing in the background, the atmosphere felt dangerously right.
He lifted her easily and settled her onto his lap. “You don’t want to do this here?”
Ivy suddenly laughed.
Nathan pinched her chin lightly. “What are you laughing at?”
She glanced at his long, clean fingers. He was still dressed in a tailored suit, refined and elegant—but there was a dangerous spark burning in his eyes.
Smiling, she said, “When we went on our first blind date, I thought you were really proper.”
“And now?” Nathan asked.
“Now I think you’re the opposite of proper,” Ivy replied. Leaning close to his ear, she laughed softly. “You’re actually pretty repressed.”
Nathan’s breathing faltered. No one had ever described him like that before. He had never imagined he’d want to do something like this—especially not in a movie theater.
Then Ivy kissed his earlobe. “I’ve never tried it here either,” she whispered. “Let’s give it a go.”
She kissed him.
Nathan tightened his arm around her waist and kissed her back.
In the end, they never finished the movie.
Ivy was carried back to the car, lifted effortlessly into Nathan’s arms and placed into a luxury sedan.
She hadn’t wanted him to carry her—anyone could tell what had happened—but Nathan had made a call and cleared the area.
So she ended up being carried straight into the car anyway.
Ivy sank into the soft passenger seat, utterly drained, exhaustion seeping into every bone.
Nathan leaned over and fastened her seat belt, a low chuckle escaping him. “Are you really that tired?”
She shot him a coy glare. “You got what you wanted, and now you’re pretending you don’t know why?”
Nathan smiled.
