The Heartbreak Prescription Chapter 1138
Nathan said, “My assistants and secretaries are all men. There are no women around me, so you don’t have to worry.”
Ivy blinked. Was he… explaining himself to her?
She knew she was only sweet-talking him because she wanted to get pregnant, but the more time she spent with Nathan, the more she noticed his good sides.
He really was a good man.
With his status and looks, he was practically the highest-tier match you could get in an arranged marriage.
Nathan opened the passenger door like a gentleman. “Get in.”
Ivy climbed inside, and Nathan took the driver’s seat. He stepped on the gas, and the luxury car glided smoothly onto the road.
Half an hour later, they arrived at the movie theater. It was a weekday, so the place was nearly empty. Nathan took the tickets, then glanced at the concession stand. “Do you want popcorn?”
Ivy had only been to a movie once before, when she was very young—with her parents.
Tabitha had held her hand. She remembered seeing the popcorn and tugging on Edric’s sleeve. “Dad, I want popcorn.”
“I’ll get it,” Edric had said.
He’d gone to buy it, but his phone rang. He answered, hurried away, and never came back—leaving her and Tabitha alone.
Later, Ivy learned that was the day his mistress gave birth to Kate.
Standing in front of the popcorn stand now dragged her straight back to that memory—the deepest wound of her childhood.
Nathan released her hand and walked over to buy popcorn.
Two girls passing by spotted him and whispered excitedly, “Wow, he’s hot.”
“Forget it. He’s obviously buying popcorn for his girlfriend.”
Nathan soon returned with a large tub. “Here.”
Ivy took it. “Thanks.”
She popped a piece into her mouth, the sweet aroma spreading instantly across her tongue. It was really sweet.
Nathan watched her. “Is it good?”
Ivy nodded. “Yeah.”
She picked up another piece and held it to his lips. “Try one.”
Nathan opened his mouth and ate it.
“Good, right?” Ivy asked.
He nodded. “Yeah.”
Ivy smiled. She knew he didn’t actually like sweets at all.
Nathan checked his watch. “The movie’s about to start. Let’s go in.”
“Okay.”
They entered the theater. There was no one else inside—Martin had booked a private couple’s suite.
After they sat down, Ivy asked, “What movie are we watching?”
“I asked Martin to choose a romance,” Nathan replied.
The film began.
The male and female leads fell in love at first sight, but the girl’s mother opposed the marriage, and they broke up in tears.
The scene was unexpectedly moving. Ivy’s eyes welled up, and tears slipped free.
Nathan handed her a tissue.
“Thanks,” she whispered.
He found it faintly amusing. “What’s there to cry about?”
Ivy sniffed. “You don’t think it’s sweet? Or touching?”
“No,” Nathan said calmly. “They’re broke. Instead of falling in love, they should be figuring out how to make money.”
Ivy stared at him. That was… absolutely a CEO mindset.
Then she noticed something odd. The tone of the movie suddenly shifted.
The couple refused to separate. They clung to each other, began taking off their clothes, and then—
