The Heartbreak Prescription Chapter 1131
“What do you believe has me so riled up?” Nathan inquired, his tone edged with irritation.
“I think I might have a guess,” Ivy replied, her voice steady. “Initially, I jumped to the conclusion that you were involved with another woman, but that’s not really the crux of the matter. The real issue is that I didn’t show any signs of jealousy, which you interpret as a lack of concern for you, right?”
Nathan exhaled a frustrated laugh, a mix of disbelief and admiration swirling within him. He had thought she was oblivious, but it appeared she was fully aware of the undercurrents of their relationship.
She was sharp, no doubt about it. Naturally, she would piece it all together.
“What are you actually trying to convey?” Nathan’s voice rose slightly, frustration bubbling to the surface. “Are you implying that I’m the one at fault here, not you?”
“It’s not a matter of right or wrong,” Ivy countered, her expression unwavering. “You’re just acting strangely.”
Nathan halted, confusion etched on his face. “What do you mean by that?”
“Why do you crave my attention so desperately? Why is it so vital for you to know that I care?” Ivy questioned, her eyes narrowing slightly. “If it were another guy, perhaps I’d understand. They might let their pride dictate their feelings. Even if they didn’t love their wives, they’d still want to be treated like prized possessions. But you, Nathan? I’ve seen how you treat women you’re not interested in. You don’t even pretend to care. So if you’re this agitated, does that mean you’ve actually developed feelings for me?”
Nathan’s breath hitched in his throat. The thought of him, Nathan, harboring feelings for Ivy?
It was utterly preposterous.
He frowned deeply, shaking his head with conviction. “I haven’t.”
“Then what is this all about?” Ivy pressed, her voice firm and unyielding.
In a swift motion, Nathan reached out and gently pinched her chin, his eyes locking onto hers. “The one acting weird here is you. You’re like ice during the day, then suddenly all over me at night. It makes me wonder if you’re concealing something from me.”
Ivy fell silent, the weight of his gaze pressing down on her.
She was acutely aware of Nathan’s dangerous edge. And now, he was beginning to suspect her true intentions.
She closed her eyes for a fleeting moment, gathering her thoughts. “What could I possibly be hiding from you? You’re overthinking this, Nathan!”
“It had better be nothing!” Nathan warned, his voice low and intense. “If I catch even the slightest hint of deception, you’ll regret it.”
He leaned in closer, their faces mere inches apart, their breaths mingling in the charged air.
Ivy inhaled his fresh, clean scent, a lingering trace of his recent shower, but beneath that was something more primal, something menacing—like a predator poised to pounce.
She steadied herself, refusing to falter in front of Nathan. “I’ve already laid everything out for you. If you still don’t trust me, there’s nothing more I can do!”
Nathan scrutinized her for a long moment, as if trying to decipher the truth hidden behind her eyes. Finally, he spoke, “Go ahead and get some sleep. I’ll be in the study finishing up some paperwork.”

After the tumult of their exchange, Ivy felt certain that Nathan wouldn’t be in the mood for intimacy tonight. She could only nod in response.
“Alright, I’ll let you be,” she said softly.
Nathan released her and strode out of the room, leaving her alone with her thoughts.

As soon as he departed, Ivy snatched her planner from the desk. Technically, her ovulation window had already closed, meaning she would soon discover whether or not she was pregnant.
So if Nathan chose not to sleep with her tonight, it wouldn’t spell disaster. Yet, it would have been preferable had he done so. She didn’t want to let any opportunity slip through her fingers.
Ivy yearned to become pregnant with an intensity that surprised even her. Part of it stemmed from the relentless pressure exerted by the Quinn family, but an even larger part was tied to Nathan himself.
If things continued down this path, she feared she might inadvertently reveal too much. She had no desire to keep throwing herself at Nathan while he remained emotionally distant and unresponsive.
If she succeeded in getting pregnant, the very first thing she would do would be to kick him out of her life for good. With determination, Ivy began pulling out a stack of design drafts, her pencil gliding over the paper as she sketched her thoughts. Before long, her eyelids grew heavy, and she succumbed to slumber at the table.
Meanwhile, Nathan had indeed retreated to the study to work. By the time he returned, the clock had already struck midnight.
He pushed open the bedroom door, greeted by the warm glow of the desk lamp illuminating the room.
There was Ivy, slumped over the table, lost in a deep sleep. Her hair cascaded over her shoulders like dark ink, and her lashes rested gently against her cheeks, creating a picture of serene beauty in the quiet of the night.
