Halsey’s lashes trembled. She trusted Shaun completely–if she didn’t, she never would’ve brought Sierra into their home in the first place.

But seeing Sierra sitting there covered in blood, she froze.

Shaun must’ve been really pissed this time.

Still, Halsey didn’t feel sorry for Sierra. Messing with someone else’s family came with a price, and this

was it.

But Halsey had to play it cool. She wanted to see who Sierra really was, and what game she was playing.

Halsey gasped, faking surprise. “Oh my god! Sierra!” She rushed over. “What happened to you?”

Sierra held her face, blood dripping between her fingers, her head spinning with pain. All her little

fantasies about Shaun were gone in an instant.

“He threw something at me!”

Halsey turned to Shaun. “Why would you do that?”

Shaun’s jaw tightened. “Why do you think?”

The way he shot the question back almost made Halsey laugh. She held it in. “Wait, this is my bedroom!

What were you

doing in here, Sierra?”

She glanced at Jocelyn. “Jocelyn?”

“Yes?” Jocelyn stepped forward.

“Didn’t you set up a room for Sierra?”

“I did. I put Ms. Fletcher in the guest room, way down the hall. I have no idea why she showed up here in your bedroom.”

Halsey looked back at Sierra. “Why weren’t you in your room?”

Sierra faltered. “I–I came looking for you. I didn’t know Mr. Lane was in here taking a shower!”

Halsey raised a brow. “Shaun was in the shower, and you just opened the door and walked in?”

“I–I thought it was you in there!” Sierra stammered. “When Mr. Lane saw me, he threw the bottle at me.”

Jocelyn folded her arms, her voice sharp. “Ms. Fletcher, no offense, but sneaking into the main bedroom at night? And then barging into the bathroom? People could get the wrong idea about what you’re up to.”

Sierra burned with rage. She was bleeding, dizzy, and sitting helplessly on the floor, but no one was

talking about taking her to the hospital. Instead, they were interrogating her as if she were the problem.

But her plan hadn’t worked, so she couldn’t reveal her real motive now.

Putting on her best pitiful look, she whispered, “Halsey, I swear I just came to find you! I’m sorry for causing trouble.” She pressed her hand to her wound. “It hurts so much. Can you please take me to the

hospital?”

Halsey pretended to suddenly realize. “Oh, you’re bleeding so much! Jocelyn, call an ambulance!”

“Right away!” Jocelyn said.

Halsey touched Sierra’s arm gently. “Hang on! Help’s on the way.”

Before long, the ambulance arrived. Two paramedics lifted Sierra onto a stretcher.

“Halsey,” Sierra begged, “I don’t have any friends here. Can you come with me?”

Halsey smiled sweetly. “Of course. I’ll go with you.”

Shaun’s face was gloomy, his anger still simmering. He looked at Halsey. “Are you really going to the

hospital?”

“Yes,” she said softly. “You should rest. I’ll be back soon.”

“And if I don’t let you go?” he asked, his voice low.

“I’ll be quick,” she answered, brushing it off.

Shaun’s eyes narrowed. “Then wait for me. I’ll change and take you.‘

Of course, he wasn’t about to let his pregnant wife head out so late alone.

Halsey nodded. “Okay.”

On the stretcher, Sierra nearly choked on her own fury. She got hurt, yet she had to watch Shaun and

Halsey act like the perfect couple right in front of her. It was torture.
