“Chelsea,” Warren snapped, “I thought we were friends, but to you, I was just a tool. I wish I’d never met you! I’m not helping you-deal with the consequences yourself. Stay in there for the rest of your life!”

Now that even Warren refused to help her, Chelsea completely froze. She really didn’t want to go to prison-it wasn’t fair! She couldn’t accept it.

Chelsea turned to Halsey. “This is all your fault! I had a bright future ahead of me, and you ruined it!”

“Chelsea, even now, you still haven’t learned a thing,” Halsey replied calmly. “It was your own greed that destroyed you.”

Shaun had no interest in wasting another word on Gilbert and Chelsea.

“Take them away,” he ordered.

Gilbert and Chelsea were escorted out.

Once they were gone, Warren turned to Halsey. “Ms. Mallin, I owe you an apology.”

Seeing Warren bow his head first, Halsey gave a soft smile. “Warren, you don’t need to apologize to me. You didn’t do anything wrong. You were just too stubborn and believed Chelsea.”

“I was fooled by her, I swear,” Warren said quickly. “No matter what, I never meant to hurt you or your baby!”

Shaun cut in, “What’s the point of apologizing now?”

“Shaun, we’ve been brothers for so many years. Just give me one more chance. I promise I’ll change,” Warren pleaded.

Halsey smiled and said teasingly, “Alright, don’t give Warren such a hard time.”

“Ms. Mallin, if you still won’t forgive me, then I’ll get on my knees and apologize properly!” Warren said, getting ready to kneel.

But Halsey quickly stopped him. “Get up.”

He looked at her hopefully. “So… You’re forgiving me?”

“I know you’re Shaun’s best friend, and everything you did was for him,” Halsey said. “So yes, I forgive you. But from now on, you need to open your eyes and stop letting people use you.”

Warren grinned. “From now on, I’m only listening to you and Shaun!”

Halsey laughed.

Shaun looked at Warren and said, “Don’t let it happen again.”

Warren nodded. “Got it.”

Shaun took Halsey’s hand. “Let’s go home. I’m worried about the baby. I’ll have the doctor give you a full checkup.”

Even though Halsey kept insisting she was fine, Shaun still called the doctor over. The checkup was done right there in the villa.

“Doctor, how is she?” Shaun asked.

The doctor smiled. “No need to worry, Mr. Lane. She and the baby are both doing great. All her vitals are completely normal.”

“You checked everything, right?” Shaun asked again.

Watching how fussy Shaun was being, Halsey felt warm inside. She smiled. “Stop grilling the poor doctor. He checked everything-we’re both healthy.”

The doctor chuckled. “You two are such a loving couple. I’ll take my leave now.”

After the doctor left, Halsey sat on the bed while Shaun gently placed his hand on her belly. “I shouldn’t have let you take that risk today.”

“If I hadn’t, how would you have found out the truth about what happened three years ago?” Halsey said. She reached up and cupped his face. “Listen to me. I never tried to hurt you. Everything was Gilbert’s plan.”

Shaun nodded. “I know. I understand now.”

Only now did he realize that Halsey had never left him. For the past three years, just like him, she had always kept him in her

heart.
