Hector and his sister had plans with their classmates, so after finishing the New Year’s meal, they headed out.

When he saw Jordyn dash ahead again without waiting, he gently pinched her cheek before turning to Celeste, who had just caught up.

She soon stopped at a stall selling sugar figurines and excitedly asked for one—specifically a monkey-shaped figure.

The vendor, a middle-aged woman, looked up at Trevor and then at Celeste as she approached. She paused for a moment in surprise before smiling at Jordyn.

“Are these your mom and dad? They make a very good-looking pair.”

Jordyn was still holding snacks in her hands. She nodded seriously.

“Yep. They’re my mom and dad.”

The woman chuckled. “They look like celebrities—what a lovely family.”

Celeste and Trevor both smiled faintly but said nothing.

There were still plenty of people out that night, and fireworks occasionally burst across the sky.

To keep them from being jostled in the crowd, Trevor watched over Jordyn while also keeping an eye on Celeste.

Sometimes, he would even lift an arm slightly, shielding her from the pushing crowd.

Celeste didn’t think much of it and simply thanked him politely each time.

After walking for quite a while, Jordyn stopped in front of a stall selling lanterns.

“Dad, I want another rabbit lantern.”
