The Breaking Point of Love or The Zillionaire’s Abandoned Wife Chapter 657
Miles leaned back in his chair, casually swirling the drink in his glass as he waited for a reply in the group chat.
The banquet hall around him was lively.
Crystal chandeliers reflected soft golden light across the room. Business elites and investors mingled in small groups, chatting and laughing politely. On the surface, everything looked like a successful, glamorous event.
But Miles could clearly feel something was missing.
The two people everyone expected to see… weren’t there.
His phone vibrated.
Beck replied first.
Beck: Busy.
Miles raised an eyebrow.
“Busy?” he muttered under his breath.
Of the three of them, Beck was usually the one who liked attending social events the most. Him skipping a banquet like this was already strange enough.
Then Trevor’s reply appeared.
Trevor: Working.
Miles stared at the screen for a few seconds.
Then he typed again.
Miles: You two are unbelievable. Wynn put a lot of effort into this banquet. Half the people here came because they thought Trevor would show up.
A few seconds passed.
Trevor didn’t reply again.
Miles sighed and locked his phone.
Across the banquet hall, Wynn stood near the stage, gracefully greeting guests one by one. Her smile was calm and elegant, perfectly composed.
No one looking at her would guess what she was feeling.
But Miles had known both her and Trevor for years.
He could tell.
Her eyes kept drifting toward the entrance of the hall.
Even though she had already been told Trevor wouldn’t come… some small part of her was still waiting.
Miles stood up and walked over.
“President Locket.”
Wynn turned and smiled politely.
“Mr. Carter, thank you for coming.”
Miles chuckled lightly. “Don’t be so formal with me. I’m practically family with those two idiots.”
Wynn’s smile softened slightly.
Miles glanced toward the entrance, then said casually,
“You’re still hoping Trevor might show up?”
Wynn paused.
Only for a moment.
Then she shook her head lightly.
“No. Mr. Fleming is very busy.”
Miles sighed inwardly.
He had just asked Trevor ten minutes ago.
The man was clearly free tonight.
Which meant there was only one reason he didn’t come.
He simply didn’t want to.
Miles suddenly said, half-joking,
“You know, if you really wanted him here, you could just call him.”
Wynn lowered her eyes slightly.
“I already tried before.”
Miles didn’t ask more.
Just then, the host on stage announced the next part of the event.
“Ladies and gentlemen, please take your seats. President Locket will soon give her opening speech.”
Applause filled the hall.
Wynn nodded slightly to Miles.
“Excuse me.”
She walked toward the stage with steady steps.
Under the bright lights, she looked calm, confident, and capable—exactly like the successful CEO everyone expected her to be.
No one could see the faint tightness in her fingers as she held the microphone.
She glanced once more at the entrance.
Still empty.
Then she began speaking.
“Thank you all for attending InnovaTech’s year-end banquet…”
Her voice was clear and steady.
But in another part of the city…
Trevor sat alone in his office.
The lights were dim.
A tablet on his desk quietly displayed the live broadcast of the banquet.
On the screen, Wynn stood under the lights, speaking gracefully to the crowd.
Trevor watched silently.
His expression unreadable.
Jacob stood nearby, hesitant.
After a long moment, he finally said carefully,
“Mr. Fleming… if you wanted to attend, there’s still time.”
Trevor didn’t look away from the screen.
His voice was calm.
“No need.”
But his eyes remained fixed on Wynn.
Not missing a single moment.
