The Breaking Point of Love or The Zillionaire’s Abandoned Wife Chapter 656
Beck didn’t respond.
Neither did Wynn.
Miles had assumed the message he dropped in the Harper Corporation group chat would stir up some interest.
Instead, it sat there—ignored.
After a while, he typed again, “Where is everyone? Hello? Anyone there?”
Beck finally replied with a single word. “Busy.”
Wynn watched the exchange unfold. After a long pause, she added the same response. “Busy.”
A moment later, Trevor chimed in. “No time.”
Miles stared at the screen, stunned. “Everyone’s that busy?”
“Yeah. Talk next time,” Trevor replied.
After that, he disappeared from the chat.
Beck truly was busy. After exchanging a couple of lines with Miles, he stopped responding as well.
Wynn noticed that Trevor had appeared briefly—only to vanish again. She didn’t send another message. Instead, she sat there staring at the screen, her thoughts drifting.
Ever since two days ago—when she had secretly contacted Jacob to intercept him at the dinner without telling Trevor, tried to kiss him in the car, only to be rejected, and then failed to reach him the next day—she hadn’t contacted Trevor at all.
It wasn’t embarrassment.
She simply felt she shouldn’t show up in his world too often anymore.
“Wynn?”
She snapped out of her thoughts as Lilian and Ruby walked back in.
Wynn nodded. Before she could speak, another voice came from behind them.
“You’re back.”
“Mm.” Harvey nodded as he took a seat.
“We ran into an acquaintance earlier. They said the invitations for Beck’s company banquet have already been sent out. Did Beck mention anything to you about Harper Corporation’s banquet this year?”
With the New Year approaching—and partly because of Trevor—they had been receiving a steady stream of banquet invitations over the past few days.
But there had been no word from Trevor’s side.
And none from Beck’s.
They assumed Trevor’s situation might be complicated this year. But Harper Corporation? They had never doubted they would receive an invitation.
Yet they had just learned that others had received theirs days ago.
And they had received nothing.
That could only mean one thing: Beck didn’t intend to invite them.
Still, Harvey and the others found it hard to believe.
If Trevor truly wanted Wynn to gradually fade from his social circle and had privately instructed Beck to distance himself, then how could Miles have sent them an invitation earlier?
They reasoned that since Wynn and Beck had a good relationship, perhaps the invitation had been sent directly to her.
Wynn lowered her eyes and answered evenly, “No.”
Harvey, Lilian, and Ruby all froze.
Only then did it sink in.
Beck really had no intention of inviting them this time.
In their eyes, the only reason Beck would distance himself was because he was still upset about what had happened with Linda.
Ruby and Linda’s expressions darkened instantly.
Especially Linda.
She bit her lip, her eyes reddening, and rushed upstairs.
To be honest, Harvey and Lilian hadn’t expected Beck to care this much about that incident. They’d assumed that, no matter what, he would at least send an invitation for Wynn’s sake.
Who would’ve thought…
That said, if an invitation had arrived, Linda likely would’ve insisted on going as well.
Lennox sighed. “Looks like from now on, not just Linda—even the rest of us need to be careful. We can’t bring her up in front of him anymore.”
Ruby’s face remained tense, but this time she said nothing.
After all, this mess had started with her daughter.
Wynn, however, understood the truth.
The reason Beck hadn’t invited the Lockets or the Shaws this year had nothing to do with Linda.
He was simply using that incident as an excuse—
to draw a clean line between himself and her.
