The Breaking Point of Love or The Zillionaire’s Abandoned Wife Chapter 638
Jorge couldn’t stop wondering how Celeste had helped his father.
What kind of help could she possibly have provided?
Theodore had never mentioned anything about it, and Jorge finally asked, “What did she do?”
Theodore’s lips curved faintly. “It has nothing to do with you.”
Before Jorge could press further, the sound of cars pulling up outside cut through the room.
Helena Saunders—Theodore’s wife—had just returned from work. Zachary and Harold arrived shortly after.
This was Celeste’s first time meeting Helena in person.
Celeste and Matthias stood as Helena entered.
Although they had never met face-to-face, Helena already knew quite a bit about Celeste.
With a warm smile, she reached out and patted Celeste’s hand. “I’ve heard Teddy mention you more than once. I’ve wanted to meet you for a while. I didn’t expect you to be even more beautiful in person than on television.”
Celeste flushed slightly. “You’re too kind.”
Jorge frowned again.
He hadn’t realized his mother was familiar with Celeste. And judging by her expression, she genuinely liked her.
After everyone sat down, Helena noticed Jorge still standing there, lost in thought.
She knew exactly what was bothering him. But like her husband, she had no intention of explaining anything.
“Don’t just stand there,” she said calmly. “Pour some tea for the guests.”
“Yes, Mom.”
Theodore had invited Celeste and the others to dinner not only to thank Celeste and Zachary for their help, but also to give everyone a chance to reconnect.
With so many people present, it wasn’t appropriate to discuss highly classified matters related to the military base. Still, they could talk about the broader domestic and international political and business climate.
Celeste visited the base frequently and had a solid understanding of these topics. When the conversation shifted in that direction, she contributed effortlessly.
Jorge knew she was talented in the AI field. That much was public knowledge. But he had never had a real, in-depth conversation with her before.
Growing up in the Robinson family, he had always believed his grasp of political and business affairs was more than sufficient.
But as he listened to Celeste speak—calm, composed, insightful—he realized he was actually behind her in several areas.
Not just him. Even Matthias seemed slightly outpaced.
A flicker of surprise crossed Jorge’s eyes.
What unsettled him more was that his parents and Zachary didn’t look surprised at all.
It dawned on him that perhaps they had known this side of Celeste for a long time.
But as far as he was aware, Harold and his parents hadn’t interacted much with her before. So how did they understand her so well?
He couldn’t piece it together.
Watching Celeste engage confidently with the influential elders in the room, Jorge’s eyes narrowed slightly.
He didn’t know why she was so close to his parents and Harold. But her demeanor alone made one thing clear—her standing was far higher than he had ever assumed.
Seen from that angle, it wasn’t surprising that Trevor still found himself drawn to her, even while already involved with Wynn.
Helena, for one, clearly liked Celeste.
After a while, she sighed lightly. “Among your generation, the most outstanding are you two… and…”
She hesitated briefly, aware of the history between Celeste and Trevor. Seeing that Celeste remained composed, she continued, “Trevor.”
Jorge could understand praising Matthias and Trevor. But Celeste?
Why did she belong in that category?
As Helena spoke, she glanced at her own son and let out a quiet sigh.
Jorge felt a lump form in his throat.
Was he really that lacking?
Throughout the evening, his expression barely relaxed.
The conversation flowed mainly between the elders, Celeste, and Matthias. Jorge hardly spoke at all. He stayed on the sidelines, pouring tea and listening—more like a background presence than an active participant.
Near the end of the night, Helena smiled and said, “I haven’t seen Caleb in quite some time. If he were here, it would’ve been even livelier.”
At the mention of Caleb, Celeste’s hand paused slightly midair as she lifted her teacup.
