The Breaking Point of Love or The Zillionaire’s Abandoned Wife Chapter 571
Both Trevor and Celeste had brought food. When Jordyn saw the snacks Celeste made—the ones she loved but hadn’t eaten in ages—her eyes lit up. “Mom, you even made snacks just for me!”
Celeste actually hadn’t made them for Jordyn. Betty had insisted, and not wanting to deal with her nagging or worry, Celeste simply went along with it. Seeing Jordyn so excited now, she didn’t explain anything.
Just then, Trevor set two plates of snacks in front of her. “Samantha said you used to like these, so I asked her to make some. Want to try?”
He assumed Samantha was good at making these—especially the spinach ravioli with that unique flavor Celeste used to love, the kind she couldn’t find anywhere else. And ever since moving out of his place, she hadn’t eaten them again.
Looking at the familiar food laid out before her, Celeste suddenly felt as though she’d slipped back in time—to the days when she stayed home waiting for Trevor to return. She turned her face slightly and said quietly, “Thanks. I’ll eat if I feel like it.”
Trevor paused but didn’t press.
After snacking a bit, Jordyn spotted someone flying a kite and immediately wanted to try it too. She dragged Trevor off to buy kites, and before long, they returned—each holding one.
When Jordyn glanced at Celeste, Trevor handed her the blue butterfly kite. Celeste instinctively pushed it back. “There’s no need, I—”
“Mom, Dad bought this one especially for you! Flying kites is really fun—you should try it!” Jordyn chirped, pushing the kite into her hands.
Then she asked, “Mom, do you know how to fly a kite?”
Celeste didn’t know what Jordyn meant by “Dad bought it especially for you,” but she answered, “I think so.”
Back when Jordyn was little—back when Trevor kept his distance—Celeste had taken her out to fly kites several times. Jordyn had been so young then; she probably didn’t remember any of it.
Celeste wasn’t in the mood to fly anything. She accepted the kite Jordyn insisted on giving her but set it aside.
Meanwhile, Trevor guided Jordyn step-by-step, and they got the kite into the air on the first try. Holding the string, Jordyn’s little face never stopped smiling. Trevor stood there, watching her with a soft, steady warmth in his eyes.
Seeing this, a quiet comfort rose in Celeste’s chest. No matter what had happened in the past—no matter what stood between her and Trevor—at least he genuinely loved Jordyn now. With a father who cared for her this deeply, Jordyn would surely grow up happy.
Just as that thought settled, she suddenly noticed Trevor looking her way. Celeste met his gaze. She was about to look away when he nodded toward the kite she’d set aside and asked, “Aren’t you going to fly it?”
“I’m not interested,” Celeste replied lightly.
Trevor didn’t push. After a moment, he turned back to Jordyn.
The campsite was large and fairly crowded. Since they hadn’t brought any helpers, whenever Jordyn wandered farther off, Trevor simply followed her.
Celeste remained seated, unmoving, watching father and daughter as their figures slowly drifted into the distance.
