The Breaking Point of Love or The Zillionaire’s Abandoned Wife Chapter 568
Wynn and Trevor reached the restaurant almost at the same time. Just as they were about to walk in, they ran into Hugh Lytton—the man Trevor was supposed to meet that morning. Hugh clearly didn’t mind that Trevor had suddenly rescheduled. The moment he spotted him, he walked over warmly and said, “I watched the press conference this morning. Everyone inside and outside the industry is raving about it. Congratulations.”
“Thank you,” Trevor replied. “About our meeting—”
“With the Fleming Group making such a major technical breakthrough, of course you needed to attend the press conference in person. I totally understand. No need to worry about it.”
Earlier, when Wynn watched the Fleming Group’s press conference, she already knew Trevor hadn’t actually needed to be there. Otherwise, there’d be no way he’d have time now to join her and Miles for a meal—he would’ve been buried in follow-up meetings and social obligations.
But hearing Hugh say this now, she suddenly realized Trevor really had rearranged his schedule just to attend that morning’s press conference…
Hugh still had an appointment waiting, so after a bit of small talk with Trevor, he wrapped things up and left.
After finishing the work for the Fleming Group and finally getting a day off, Celeste thought she could finally relax. But early Saturday morning, she got a call from Jordyn, who said she wanted to grab lunch and go shopping.
Celeste was tired, yes—but not so tired that she couldn’t go out. She just… didn’t really want to.
Jordyn must’ve sensed her hesitation, because she added, “Mom, we’ll only be out for half the day. Just lunch and a little shopping, then we’ll come home.”
“Okay.”
A little after eleven, Jordyn’s car pulled up to the Rodriguez residence. When Celeste stepped outside with her bag, she froze for a moment—Trevor was sitting inside the car too.
Jordyn waved eagerly. “Mom, get in!”
She definitely hadn’t mentioned earlier that Trevor would be joining them.
Celeste paused mid-step. “Mom?” Jordyn asked, confused.
Celeste looked toward Trevor. He seemed to understand exactly what her hesitation meant. He gave a small shrug, as if to say he was only going along with Jordyn’s plan.
“Mom, we already booked a private dining room. Let’s go.”
Celeste said nothing and got into the car.
Once they were on the road, Jordyn curled up beside her and chatted nonstop. Celeste listened quietly, responding here and there. After a while, Jordyn’s classmates started texting her, and she shifted her attention to her phone instead.
Celeste glanced at Trevor, then picked up her own phone and sent him a message:
“Next time Jordyn asks for something like this, let me know in advance. I’ll handle it.”
Trevor lowered his eyes when he saw her text. Rather than replying on his phone, he spoke directly: “Alright. Got it.”
Hearing his sudden comment, Jordyn looked up. “Hm? Dad, what did you say?”
Trevor smiled. “Nothing.”
“Okay.”
At the restaurant, after they placed their order, Trevor looked at Celeste. “I reviewed the key points from the new technical breakthrough. I think—”
Celeste didn’t lift her head. She didn’t look at him at all. “I don’t want to talk about work right now.”
Trevor watched her for a moment but didn’t take her coolness to heart. He poured her a glass of water, set it down in front of her, and asked with a light, easy smile, “Alright. Then what do you want to talk about?”
