“Thanks for your hard work.”
Maybe realizing she wasn’t in the mood to talk, Trevor didn’t say anything else. He simply left with Wynn—they had dinner plans.
After their meal, Trevor still had business matters to handle, and Wynn also had things waiting for her at the company. Coincidentally, the Lockets and the Shaws were dining nearby, so she stopped in to meet them.
When Ruby saw Wynn, she couldn’t help but remark, “You seem to be in a much better mood lately.”
She wasn’t the only one who’d noticed. Lilian and Erin had picked up on it too.
Linda smiled and added, “Of course she is. Trev’s been buried in work these past few weeks, so Wynn barely saw him at all. Now that he’s not as swamped and they get to see each other every day again, how could she not be in a good mood?”
Honestly, everyone in both families believed the same thing—that Trevor’s busy schedule was what had made Wynn unhappy.
As for the real reason, only she truly understood it.
But that was all in the past now.
Wynn thought about it for a moment but didn’t say anything.
Seeing her so composed and confident as she got into the car, the Lockets and the Shaws didn’t press further. They simply smiled and followed after her.
Meanwhile, Celeste knew nothing about what was happening between Trevor and Wynn.
Over the next two days, she continued showing up at Fleming Group as usual. During that time, she didn’t run into Trevor or Wynn again.
On the afternoon of the third day, the target their team had been working toward finally made a breakthrough—one that even exceeded expectations.
The moment the results were confirmed, cheers exploded through Fleming Group’s R&D department.
When Trevor received the news, he paused.
“Oh? Really?”
He immediately pulled up the compiled report and began reading it.
He read slowly and carefully, and before long, a satisfied smile spread across his face. There was a clear ease and joy about him.
Jacob, watching from the side, was momentarily stunned.
To be fair, Trevor wasn’t a difficult boss. He wasn’t cold either. If anything, the only person he’d ever been truly distant with was Celeste.
He treated his employees well. And when it came to Wynn, there was always a gentle smile.
But this—this relaxed happiness—Jacob had never seen on him before, not once in all the years they’d worked together.
While Jacob was still processing it, Trevor’s phone rang on the desk.
A quick glance told Jacob it was Wynn calling.
But Trevor remained completely absorbed in the report on his screen, not seeming to hear the phone at all.
Jacob knew exactly how deeply invested Trevor was in the AI field. Judging by how remarkable Celeste’s team’s results were, there had to be plenty in that report that grabbed his attention. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be this fixated.
The phone kept ringing.
Seeing that Trevor still hadn’t reacted, Jacob finally cleared his throat. “Mr. Fleming, your phone’s ringing—it’s Ms. Locket.”
“Mm.” Trevor responded automatically, probably not even hearing him clearly. His eyes never moved from the screen.
Jacob hesitated. Watching Trevor so engrossed, then glancing at the still-ringing phone, he couldn’t help speaking again.
“Mr. Fleming—”
