The Breaking Point of Love / The Zillionaire’s Abandoned Wife — Chapter 554
That afternoon, when Celeste arrived home, Jordyn had just gotten back from school. The moment Celeste stepped through the door, she heard her daughter chatting on the phone. As soon as Jordyn spotted her, her whole face brightened.
“Mom!” she called out happily.
Whatever the person on the other end said made Jordyn’s eyes sparkle even more. She hurried over with the phone clutched in both hands.
“Mom, Dad wants to talk to you.”
Celeste froze for a second. Then she took the phone and lifted it to her ear.
“Hello.”
“Happy birthday.”
Celeste didn’t respond right away. A beat of silence passed before she finally said, “Thank you.”
By all logic, this was the moment she should’ve mentioned the gift he’d sent that morning—at least said something polite. But with the phone pressed to her ear, she remained quiet. Not a single word.
Trevor didn’t bring it up either. It was as if that extremely expensive gift had nothing to do with him at all.
“I’ve got a lot going on over here,” he said, his voice steady. “I probably won’t be back for a while.”
Celeste immediately understood what he was implying. She pressed her lips together and said nothing.
When she didn’t reply, Trevor asked, “Are you mad?”
She didn’t answer that either. Her voice stayed flat. “Anything else?”
“No.”
The second the word left his mouth, she hung up—clean and decisive.
But just before the call disconnected, she thought she heard him laugh.
Her hand paused around the phone, her brow tightening slightly.
Trevor had already told Jordyn he wouldn’t be back anytime soon, so for the next few days the little girl naturally stayed with the Rodriguez family.
During those days, he called home nearly every day.
Celeste never spoke to him again.
But she still knew all about what he was doing—not because she cared to know, but because his name dominated the news.
Every headline revolved around his latest business ventures. From that alone, she could tell he’d gone abroad a few days earlier and wouldn’t be returning anytime soon.
She only knew where he was because he was too visible, too public.
Not because she was paying attention.
The Locketts and the Shaws only knew Trevor was busy. But what exactly he was working on—they had no idea.
It wasn’t until the reports surfaced that they realized just how massive his projects were.
The business coverage was everywhere. Their entire circle buzzed about how Trevor’s investments were gearing up to become the next big wave in the market.
When the numbers flashed across the screen—those staggering, almost surreal sums—Wynn’s uncle, Luther, couldn’t hold back.
“Trevor knows about so many great investment opportunities, and he doesn’t give us a heads-up,” he muttered.
If he’d just let them in on one project—even a tiny fraction—
That tiny fraction would’ve been more than enough to fill their bowls to the brim.
He didn’t say it outright, but everyone understood exactly what he meant.
And truthfully, the others were thinking the same thing.
Harvey looked tempted too, but he answered honestly, “Those kinds of projects aren’t something regular people can just jump into. If anything goes wrong, Trevor’s the one responsible. And besides, these aren’t small ventures. The capital alone already shuts most people out.”
They simply didn’t have that kind of money.
Luther snorted. “If Trevor really wanted to help, he’d find a way.”
Wynn stayed silent, but she knew her uncle wasn’t wrong.
If Trevor truly wanted to give her family a boost, he absolutely could.
And if this had been a month or two ago, she would’ve been certain—absolutely certain—that he would have gone out of his way to help her, no questions asked.
