Monday morning, just as Celeste arrived at the office building downstairs, she bumped into Kieran, who was also arriving for work.

Kieran smiled as he said, “Morning.”

Caleb watched her retreating figure. After a long moment, he turned and returned to his car.

There was a bouquet of flowers in the car.

He had originally planned to give them to Celeste, but given the way things looked now, if he actually brought them out, she’d probably be even more put off and want to avoid him.
