She bent down and helped Casey out of her coat. Ryder and I shrugged ours off and handed them to the butler.

“Babe, you should be resting, not working in a kitchen,” I said, stepping up behind her and resting my hands on her sides. “Not in your condition.”

Judy’s frown deepened as she turned to face me, arms folding across her chest.

“It’s not a condition. It’s pregnancy. And you’re the one who did this to me… again,” she said, pressing her lips into a thin line. “I don’t need to rest. I need to help my friend with her first real party. Now, if you’ll excuse me.”

She turned to leave, then paused and looked back at the kids. She kissed both of them on the cheek and pulled them into a quick hug before following Nan toward the kitchen.

The house was packed. It looked like Nan had invited half the pack to celebrate her twins’ ninth birthday.

“I’m going into hiding,” Ryder muttered, already backing away. “Don’t come looking for me.”

“You’re not even going to say happy birthday to Kylie?” I called after him.

He didn’t respond. Just disappeared into the crowd.

I rolled my eyes.

“Guess it’s just you and me, Case,” I said, resting my hand on my daughter’s head.

She looked up at me and smiled.

“Is Irene going to be here too, Daddy?” she asked, hope shining in her eyes.

She adored Irene. Missed her constantly.

I exhaled and shook my head.

“No, sweetheart. She couldn’t get the time off.”

Irene had been traveling the world as a well-known fashion designer. Erik was with her as both her husband and her bodyguard. When she first told me she was leaving the pack to chase her dreams, I hated it. I didn’t want her that far away.

But I knew she’d be safe with Erik. He wouldn’t have let her go alone anyway.

Now she’d built something incredible for herself—her own empire. I was proud of her. More than I could put into words.

“Uncle Gavin,” a familiar voice said.

I looked up to see Emalyn walking toward me. She smiled, gave me a quick hug, and waved at Casey.

“You too, kid,” I said. “How’s school?”

“Boring,” Emalyn muttered. “Everyone’s so stuck-up.”

She attended a private school filled with wealthy families. Ever since Nan’s restaurant took off and both she and Chester became well-known chefs, their family had stepped into a completely different lifestyle.

“Ema, it’s your turn to entertain the kids,” Chester called as he walked over, looking exhausted.

“Ugh. Do I have to?” she groaned, scrunching her nose. “I’m almost eleven. I shouldn’t have to hang out with a bunch of nine-year-olds.”

“Yes, you do. We had a deal, remember?” Chester said.

She sighed dramatically.

“This is your fault for not booking entertainment.”

“Yeah, you’ve got me there,” Chester admitted, running a hand through his hair. “You know we’re not good at this party thing. We cater events—we don’t host them. But your mother’s trying to prove something now that we’re living this… fancy lifestyle.”

“I know, Dad,” Emalyn sighed. “I’ll go.”

She waved at me before disappearing into the crowd.

Chester turned back to me with a tired smile.

“Glad you could make it, Alpha. I’m guessing my wife already stole yours.”

“The second we walked in,” I said with a low chuckle. “How’s it going?”

“Chaotic. In case that wasn’t obvious,” he replied, shaking his head. “I think she invited most of the pack.”

I laughed. That was putting it lightly.

“Hi, Daddy. Hi, Uncle Gavin.”

I looked down to see one of the twins standing in front of us.

Kylie.

The freckles across her nose and cheeks gave her away immediately, along with the small gap between her front teeth. Kenzi didn’t have freckles, but she had a tiny beauty mark on her chin. They both had the same gap-toothed smile, so unless you knew them well, it could be confusing.

“Hey, Kylie,” Chester said. “Everything okay?”

She nodded, then turned to me.

“Is Ryder here?” she asked eagerly.

I couldn’t help but smile. She and Ryder had been inseparable since she was born—even though he’d only been a year old at the time.

“He’s around here somewhere,” I said, motioning in the direction he’d gone.

She thanked me and hurried off.

Soon after, Nan wheeled out a massive birthday cake, Judy right behind her. The room filled with voices singing “Happy Birthday” to the twins.

As I looked around, something swelled in my chest.

All gathered to celebrate two little girls.

My eyes found Judy across the room. She looked at me and smiled—bright, steady, sure.
