Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 939
Judy’s POV
I stared at them, completely stunned.
Pregnant?
There was no way I’d heard her right. Years ago, Nan had told me she couldn’t have children. Multiple doctors had confirmed it. But one look at her face told me this wasn’t a joke. She was pale—almost fragile—and now that I thought about it, she’d seemed distant all day. Even before walking down the aisle, there had been something faraway in her eyes.
Had she known then?
When did this even happen? And why hadn’t she told me?
“Pregnant?” I finally managed, my voice barely working. “How long have you known?”
“Not long,” Nan said quickly. “We just found out a few minutes ago.”
“That’s why we went to the drugstore,” Chester added, his arm tightening protectively around her shoulders. “She was sick all last night. Couldn’t keep anything down this morning. She was dizzy, lightheaded… I told her we should go to a doctor, but she refused because of your wedding.”
I looked back at Nan. Her eyes were glossy with tears.
“I’m your maid of honor,” she said, sniffling. “I wasn’t going to miss your wedding over what I thought was a stomach bug. I took some medicine and felt almost okay this morning. But when we got here, I ran straight to the bathroom before putting on this dress. I threw up again. I thought I was going to pass out walking down the aisle. Standing there during your vows? I was terrified I was going to throw up in front of everyone.”
My heart physically ached for her.
“The second you said you kissed, I knew I had to get out of there,” she continued. “I bolted down the aisle and tried to hide outside. But your mom followed me. She held my hair back while I threw up in a bush. It was the most humiliating moment of my life.”
“Oh, Nan…” I stepped closer, my chest tight.
She swallowed hard.
“After I got everything out of my system, your mom brought Eliza. She checked me quickly and suggested I might be pregnant. I didn’t even want to think about it. I’ve been told my whole life I’d never have kids. It felt too good to be true.” Her voice cracked. “But she told us to get a test anyway. Just in case.”
“So you went,” I whispered. “You and Chester went to the drugstore.”
She nodded, leaning further into him. He held her like he was afraid she might break.
“We bought a test,” she said softly. “There wasn’t a public bathroom at the store, so we had to come back here to use one. We got here just a few minutes after you arrived. Your mom showed us where to go, and we’ve been in here ever since.”
“And you found out…” My voice trembled now, but not from hurt—from awe. “You’re really pregnant.”
She nodded again, tears spilling freely down her cheeks.
“We were trying to figure out what to do,” she admitted. “I wanted to tell you, but it’s your wedding day. I didn’t want to take anything away from—”
She didn’t get to finish.
I threw my arms around her and pulled her tightly against me. Tears streamed down my face before I could stop them.
My best friend was having a baby.
On the happiest day of my life, she had just received the news she’d wanted more than anything. For as long as I’ve known Nan, she’s dreamed of being a mother—right up there with becoming a renowned chef and owning a five-star restaurant.
This wasn’t taking anything away from my day.
If anything, it made it brighter.
“I’m so happy for you,” I breathed into her shoulder.
“There you are,” a familiar voice called from behind us.
I didn’t have to turn around to know it was Irene.
“It’s time to cut the cake. Matt’s about two seconds from wolfing out,” she said. Then she gasped. “Oh my goddess… your makeup!”
