Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 920
Irene turned to look at me. Her eyes were red with tears, her nose pink and irritated—a sure sign she was barely holding it together. In that moment, she looked heartbreakingly young and vulnerable, and my chest tightened painfully for her.
I hated that she was going through this. Hated even more that it was happening in front of so many people.
Everyone in the room was watching her, gauging her reaction, waiting for her to break.
But Irene was only looking at me.
“You’re telling me I’m cursed?” she whispered. Her voice cracked at the end.
I shook my head and stepped closer.
“You’re not cursed, Irene,” I said gently. “You’re being cursed. Chuck placed a curse on you, and I am so, so sorry this is happening. You don’t deserve any of this—but I promise you, we will make it right.”
She sniffled and wiped at her eyes, suddenly looking far younger than her twenty-two years.
Her gaze flicked to Cora, then to Esme. Both women were watching her with open sympathy, neither interrupting.
“It doesn’t feel like a curse,” Irene admitted quietly. “My wolf senses him as my mate.”
“If you really look inward,” Cora said softly—her gentlest tone yet—“you might realize that what you’re feeling isn’t a true bond at all. Haven’t you ever felt uncertain? Like things weren’t quite right… like he wasn’t being fully honest?”
Cora hesitated, then added, “You two nearly broke up once. Does that sound normal for a true mate bond?”
“All couples fight,” Irene said, shaking her head, confusion written plainly across her face. “Even Judy and my dad fight—and they’re disgustingly adorable, if I’m being honest.”
I smiled faintly. She wasn’t wrong.
“I’m sorry this hurts you, sweetheart,” Esme said, her eyes sad. “I know I don’t know you well, but you seem like a good girl. You don’t deserve to be treated this way. You deserve real love.”
Her gaze hardened slightly. “If you’re anything like Judy says, you deserve far more than this jerk. Don’t let a siren break your heart.”
“I don’t understand,” Irene whispered, shaking her head. “How do we break the curse? And why do we have to be here?”
“Because this is where the curse was placed,” I explained. “The essence of it has to be reunited with the curse itself—which is inside you. And it has to be drawn back by the one who cast it.”
I didn’t look at him as I said the next words.
“That’s Chuck.”
“Irene, baby—don’t listen to them,” Chuck tried to interject. “I love you—”
Taylor shot him a warning look, but Chuck ignored it.
I stepped closer to Irene until only inches separated us.
“Irene,” I said quietly, lowering my voice so only she could hear. She looked up at me.
“I know you’ve had terrible luck with men. First Ethan, now Chuck. But don’t you think you deserve to know what real love feels like? To be with someone who chooses you every day—who never wants to see that sadness in your eyes?”
She blinked slowly, studying my face.
“What if I never find that person?” she asked. Her voice trembled as she bit her lower lip.
“What if Chuck really is the only one for me? What if I never find someone who loves me the way I want to be loved?”
I didn’t hesitate. I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her into a hug.
“You will,” I said firmly. “You’re beautiful. You’re strong. And you’re a Landry. Any man would be lucky to love you.”
I pulled back just enough to look at her.
“I’m not just your father’s mate—his future wife,” I continued softly. “I’m your friend, Irene. I would never lie to you. I’m sorry it took something like this to open your eyes, but I’m not sorry for helping you in the only way we could.”
I squeezed her hands gently.
“Please… let us help you finish this. Let us break the curse.”
