Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 916
“He has your nose,” I said, leaning into Gavin as I stared down at our baby boy, sleeping peacefully in his bassinet.
Gavin wrapped his arms around me and pressed his lips to my temple. I felt his smile there—and felt the tension in his body finally ease. We’d just spent our first night back at the villa after staying the last few days at Eliza’s clinic.
Even though I’d woken up without any lingering issues and both Ryder and I were perfectly healthy, Eliza had insisted on keeping us there for observation and additional healing. Gavin hadn’t argued. And honestly, I’d been far too exhausted to fight her—which only proved she was right. Besides, it had been nice lying in bed with my baby boy for those last few days. Coming home and having to sleep separately again had been a difficult adjustment, but we’d kept the bassinet close to the bed, and Gavin had helped ease some of that postpartum tension.
“And he has everything else about you,” Gavin murmured, his lips still resting against my temple. “I’m so happy to have my family all under one roof again.”
I turned in his arms so I could look up at him.
“I’m sorry I worried you,” I said—not for the first time. I couldn’t shake the image of his face when I first woke up at Eliza’s clinic: the dark circles under his eyes, the fear he hadn’t bothered to hide. It was a look I never wanted to see again.
My chest ached at the memory.
He leaned down and brushed his lips against mine, and I melted into the kiss. His mouth moved against mine with familiar ease, his tongue grazing my bottom lip. Warmth spread through my body as I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling myself closer.
I was fully healed—and I wanted to be even closer—but he’d been good, insisting my body needed more time to recover, despite my needy protests the night before.
“Mmm, Judy,” he warned softly between kisses. “This is turning into more than either of us bargained for right now. You just had a baby. You still need time.”
“I’m a fast healer,” I whispered. “I’ve missed you.”
“You have no idea how much I’ve missed you,” he replied, kissing me again before reluctantly pulling back. “But I need to be sure you’re one hundred percent back on your feet.”
I pouted up at him.
“I am,” I promised. “Trust me.”
“I do,” he said, pressing a kiss to my forehead—and I knew then that this was a battle I was about to lose.
Before I could say anything else, there was a knock at the door.
I exhaled as Gavin pulled away and went to answer it. When he opened the door, Adam stood on the other side.
He glanced awkwardly between the two of us and cleared his throat. “Miss Rugby is here.”
I took a steadying breath and looked back at Gavin.
“I have to go,” I said.
He nodded. “I know.”
He opened his arms, and I stepped into them. I really didn’t want to leave my newborn—not even for a moment—but I knew I had to do this if things were ever going to feel even remotely normal again. The waiting was finally coming to an end.
He kissed me tenderly before pulling back.
“Call if you need anything,” he said quietly. “And don’t stay alone with him. Listen to Taylor.”
I rolled my eyes. “Stop parenting me,” I murmured. “I’m not a child.”
A faint smile tugged at his lips. “I know you’re not.”
He kissed me one last time. “Now go.”
I nodded and followed Adam out of the room and down the stairs. Nan was waiting downstairs with Irene, who looked equal parts confused and annoyed.
“I don’t understand where we’re going,” Irene said, looking between us. “And I’m really not in the mood to go anywhere.”
“I know,” I said gently. “But this is important. Just trust us, okay?”
She sighed, then nodded.
Outside, a car waited at the curb. Erik sat in the driver’s seat, his tension obvious. I couldn’t blame him.
“Is Taylor meeting us there?” Nan asked quietly so Irene wouldn’t hear.
I nodded, forcing a pleasant smile to hide my tangled nerves.
We all slid into the backseat as Erik started the engine. He stayed silent the entire drive. Irene stared down at her hands, nervously twisting her fingers together.
I reached over and covered her hand with mine, drawing her attention to me.
“Are you okay?” I asked softly.
