Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 915
“Where’s my baby…?” she whispered, her voice thin with exhaustion.
She lifted her head, brows drawing together as she winced in pain. My hand immediately came up to steady her shoulders, easing her back against the pillows.
“Easy,” I murmured. “You’ve been asleep for almost twenty-four hours. You need to rest. Let me get Eliza.”
To my surprise, she didn’t argue.
I didn’t hesitate. I rushed from the room and nearly collided with both Irene and Eliza in the hallway. Irene’s eyes were red, tears still clinging to her lashes, and my chest tightened at the sight. She startled when she saw me.
Before either of them could speak, I turned to Eliza.
“She’s awake.”
Eliza gasped and hurried past me into the room.
I stayed behind long enough to meet Irene’s gaze. She quickly wiped at her eyes.
“I’m sorry,” I said quietly. “You were right. I was selfish. I shut you out and left everything on your shoulders—especially the baby. You didn’t deserve that. I won’t abandon you again.”
She studied my face, searching.
“Are you just saying that because she’s awake?” she asked softly, her voice unsteady.
I shook my head.
“I was coming after you,” I said. “She woke up before I could catch you. What you said… it snapped me out of it. I’m truly sorry.”
Her lips trembled. Then she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around me.
“I love you, Dad,” she whispered.
“I love you too, sweetheart.”
Behind us, I heard Eliza’s calm voice. “You’ve been asleep for quite a while. We were starting to worry.”
I turned and walked back into the room, Irene following close behind.
Judy was sitting up now, color slowly returning to her face. She blinked, glancing around the room with visible confusion.
“I’ve been asleep the whole time?” she asked hoarsely. “It didn’t feel that long. I had the strangest dream…”
Eliza brought a cup of water to her lips.
“Don’t strain yourself,” she cautioned. “Your body is still recovering. You gave all of us quite a scare.”
“I’m sorry,” Judy murmured. “I didn’t mean to worry anyone.”
“It isn’t your fault,” Eliza said gently, smiling. “Your family will be very relieved to see you awake.”
Judy’s eyes found mine immediately.
I crossed the room without thinking, taking her hands in mine. They were warm now—alive. My wolf surged forward, reconnecting with hers instantly, settling into the comfort of my fully awake, present mate.
“Were you scared?” she asked softly, her fingers brushing the crease between my brows. “I can feel it. The tension… the fear.”
I nodded, leaning into her touch.
“I was,” I admitted. “You’d be disappointed to know I let everything else fall apart while I stayed here. I barely even held our son.”
Her eyes widened.
“What? Why? Is he okay?”
“Yes,” Irene said, stepping closer, our baby cradled in her arms. “He’s perfect. Dad just… fell apart while you were asleep. Now that you’re awake, I’m hoping I can retire from being super nanny.”
Judy shot me a sharp look.
“You abandoned our son?” she demanded. “I didn’t go through all of this just for you to neglect him, Gavin.”
Shame crushed my chest.
“I’m so sorry,” I whispered, tears burning my eyes. “I was too afraid to think straight.”
“I want my baby,” Judy said, holding out her arms.
“Are you sure?” Irene asked hesitantly.
“Yes,” Judy said without a second’s pause. “Please.”
Relief flooded Irene’s face as she handed Judy the small bundle wrapped in a soft blue blanket—one her adoptive mother had knitted just days ago.
The moment Judy held him, her entire expression softened. Peace settled over her features, love radiating from her in waves—and it wrapped around me too.
I had failed at the beginning. I knew that. But I would never make that mistake again.
“He still needs a name,” Irene said quietly, joining us.
“I wanted to wait for you,” I told Judy.
Her eyes sparkled, a gentle smile forming.
“Ryder,” she whispered.
“Ryder Landry.”
