It was too soon—far too soon for the baby to be coming.

I should have gotten her out of that place earlier. I’d wanted to give her a chance to prove herself in front of the party guests. I never imagined it would end with her accepting a death-match challenge or nearly coming to blows with Noah Blackwell.

My hands trembled as I held Judy in the backseat of the limo. Erik was driving as fast as he could toward Eliza’s clinic, following Judy’s request.

I don’t think she knows there’s blood between her legs.

And I won’t be the one to tell her.

She keeps saying the baby is coming, but something feels wrong. The knot in my stomach won’t loosen, no matter how hard I try to breathe through it. I spent the entire ride praying to the Moon Goddess not to take my baby—or my mate—from me.

Not again.

I can’t survive losing another mate.

“Erik, can you drive any faster?” Nan asked sharply, panic threading her voice.

“I’m going as fast as I can,” Erik snapped, glaring at her in the rearview mirror. “The roads are busy, and it wouldn’t be safe to push harder with a pregnant she-wolf in the back.”

“Yeah, well, this pregnant she-wolf is about to give birth in the backseat of a limo,” Nan shot back through clenched teeth. “So it would be wise to get us to Eliza’s clinic immediately.”

I didn’t have the strength to argue.

I only tightened my arms around Judy, terrified that if I loosened my grip even a little, she’d slip away from me.

“Yeah… we’re taking her to Eliza’s clinic now,” Irene said into the phone pressed to her ear. “If you and Matt want to head there, we’ll be there soon.”

She was calling Judy’s parents.

The thought hadn’t even crossed my mind—my head was too full of fear, too empty of reason. I was grateful Irene was here. Grateful she was thinking clearly when I couldn’t.

When she ended the call, she turned to me.
“Should I call the Blackwells too? I have Selene’s number.”

I hesitated.

Part of me didn’t want anyone from that family anywhere near Judy—two of them were the reason we were in this situation to begin with. If Judy hadn’t been pushed so hard, hadn’t been forced to use her magic the way she did, I doubted we’d be racing to Eliza’s clinic right now.

But Selene and Zachary deserved to know.

So I nodded.

Irene dialed Selene’s number and lowered her voice. I barely heard her. My focus narrowed to Judy—her shallow breathing, the way her body felt too warm in my arms. She’d passed out almost immediately after telling me to take her to Eliza’s clinic instead of the hospital.

My whole body shook. No matter how hard I willed it to stop, it wouldn’t.

I brushed a damp strand of hair from her face. Sweat slicked her skin, soaking into her carefully styled hair until it clung to her temples and neck.

Irene ended the call and looked at me.
“They’re meeting us there.”

I nodded and pressed my lips to Judy’s temple, whispering another silent prayer.

The clinic finally came into view.

Erik barely had time to park before I shoved the door open and lifted Judy into my arms, carrying her straight toward the entrance.

Eliza was already there.

“I got Nan’s text,” she said quickly as she rushed toward us. “Get her into this room immediately. I’ve called in extra medical staff—they’ll be here any minute.”

I followed her without hesitation and laid Judy gently onto the medical bed. She groaned as I released her, her eyes fluttering open just long enough to find mine.

“Our baby…” she whispered.

I cupped her face and kissed her—slow, grounding—drawing strength from her warmth, from her scent, from the bond between us. I poured everything I had into that bond, hoping she could feel it.

She was strong.
But together, we were stronger.

“We’re at Eliza’s clinic,” I murmured against her lips. “Just like you asked. Trust her… she’s got this.”

Her body relaxed. She gave the faintest nod before her eyes closed again.

“I need some space to examine her,” Eliza said as she pulled on her gloves. “Alpha, I’m sorry—but I need you to step out.”

“I’m not leaving my mate,” I growled.

“I know you want to protect her,” Eliza said firmly, meeting my eyes, “but you can’t protect her from this. I need to do things you won’t want to see, and I can’t have you interfering if you want me to save both Judy and the baby.”

The words hit like a blade.

Slowly, reluctantly, I loosened my hold.

Because if stepping away was the only way to save them—
then I would do it.
