Judy’s POV

My entire body was shaking as Gavin wrapped me in his arms. He pulled me tightly against his chest, but I couldn’t tear my eyes away from Daisy’s neck.

Or rather—from where her mark used to be.

My claw marks had replaced it.

My stomach twisted violently as silence swallowed the space around us. Noah was still writhing on the ground, clutching his chest, pain etched across his face. But Daisy… Daisy was only breathing hard. Not in pain.

She looked… relieved.

“Daisy?” I whispered, slipping out of Gavin’s arms and rushing to her side.

Guilt slammed into me all at once. I had hurt her. I could have killed her.

I didn’t even know what had possessed me. All I remembered was seeing that glowing, throbbing mark on her neck—and knowing, with terrifying certainty, that I had to break the bond. That I had to set her free.

Then my hands weren’t hands anymore.

“I’m free,” she whispered hoarsely. “I’m finally free. The bond… it’s broken.”

“It’s time for us to leave,” Gavin said quietly, his hand settling on my lower back.

I looked down at Daisy, who was still sitting on the ground, laughing and crying at the same time, disbelief spilling from her in broken whispers.

“We should help her,” I said without looking away.

“You already did,” Gavin replied firmly. “Daisy’s an adult. She’s free from him now. She can go anywhere.”

There was compassion beneath his stern tone, and when I finally looked up at him, I saw it clearly—along with the faint smile tugging at his lips.

“You did well,” he added softly.

My heart swelled painfully.

I stared down at my hands. I didn’t understand this power. I didn’t know how to use this magic—but somehow, I had broken a mate bond.

“Why?” Noah rasped.

I turned to him. He was no longer clutching his chest, but he remained sprawled on the ground, pale and shaking, fury blazing in his eyes.

“Why would you help her? After everything she’s done to you?” he snarled. “After she stole the Moon Gem? After she tried to get close to Gavin Landry? She’s treated you like shit for years, and you still help her?”

I pressed my lips together, ignoring Gavin’s quiet insistence that we leave.

“Because whether I like it or not,” I said coldly, “Daisy is Pack. And I protect my own.”

Daisy stared at me, stunned, as murmurs rippled through the crowd.

“What the fuck is going on here?” Lila demanded as she shoved her way forward. “Why is everyone standing outside instead of enjoying my party?”

“Judy just protected Daisy Baldwin from your unhinged brother,” a girl in the crowd said sharply. “Apparently, he marked her without consent and’s been abusing the bond for a while. Did you know about that?”

Lila’s cheeks flushed red. She crossed her arms, jaw tight, and turned toward Noah and Daisy.
