Judy’s POV

The crowd began drifting in one direction, and we followed them toward a large stage on the far side of the venue. That was when I finally saw Lila in the flesh—standing under the lights, a microphone in hand, a smile slowly spreading across her face.

She loved the attention. That much was obvious.

“Thank you all so much for coming to my party,” Lila said into the mic. “I’m incredibly honored by all this support. Following in my mother’s footsteps has always been my dream. She’s such an inspiration to us all, and having her guidance and support on this journey means everything to me.”

I sucked in a sharp breath.

She had to be lying… right?

There was no way Selene would support this. Selene had been giving me Luna lessons. She had agreed to continue mentoring me until I was confident enough to stand on my own. If Lila were planning to compete against me, Selene would have told me.

Wouldn’t she?

“Being a Luna means everything to me,” Lila continued smoothly. “And your support is so important. If you haven’t already, please see my brothers to donate to the Lila Blackwell Fund. It will help me better the future of this territory. Though my family is fortunate, I would truly appreciate contributions from those who believe in me.”

My heart pounded as I glanced up at Gavin. His brows were drawn tight as we watched several members of the crowd approach Noah Blackwell, who held a small donation box.

They were actually taking money from people.

Lila lifted a hand and touched the necklace at her throat, and my eyes widened. For a split second, it looked like the Moon Gem—but I knew it wasn’t real. I didn’t feel that familiar pull. It didn’t glow. It barely reacted at all as she traced her thumb along its delicate edges.

“And to prove that I only want what’s best for this pack,” Lila said, “my brothers will be presenting a one-billion-dollar check to the Landry Foundation. Any donations you make tonight will be returned tenfold and invested into improving the entire territory—not just the Silver Crescent pack.”

A ripple of excitement moved through the crowd.

“I’m sure you’re also wondering why I chose this neutral territory for my party.”

She gestured toward Noah, who handed the donation bin to his younger brother, Emmet. Noah then stepped onto the stage with a pretty blonde curled against his side, his arm wrapped snugly around her waist. She beamed up at him as he accepted the microphone from Lila, kissing her cheek like a doting brother.

I had to stifle an eye roll. I knew it was all for show.

“I present to you,” Noah announced, pulling a document from his coat pocket, “the deed to this neutral territory.”

The crowd gasped. I did too.

“We are officially expanding the Landry territory,” he continued. “That means more homes and more pack members. We’re even willing to take in rogues—as long as you support my sister and vote for her to become the Luna of this territory.”

I looked up at Gavin. His jaw was clenched tight, his entire body rigid. I could tell he was barely keeping himself—and his wolf—under control.

“He can’t do that,” I whispered. “Can he?”

“No,” Gavin said through his teeth. “He can’t.”

“Gavin Landry’s business is failing,” Noah went on, unfazed. “And my father has been doing everything he can to save it. With the added income from this new territory—along with your generous support and donations—we can ensure it remains strong and profitable.”

He gestured toward Lila.

“All of this is because of my sister. She’s already accomplished so much—and she isn’t even officially Luna yet. Just imagine what she’ll achieve once that title is finally hers.”
