Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 901
Judy’s POV
When Lila throws a party… she really throws a party.
It wasn’t anything like I expected. It was pure chaos. The music was blaring, people packed both the house and the grounds outside, and bouncers stood at the entrances checking invitations. Mixed into it all was a scent that made my stomach tighten—rogues. A lot of them.
I scanned the crowd with a frown just as Gavin stepped closer, his hand settling at my lower back as he guided me through the mass of bodies, searching for a place where we could actually stand. We weren’t here to party. We were here to investigate—and to shut down whatever Lila might be planning behind the excuse of this celebration.
When I looked up at Gavin, the question clear in my eyes, he gave a short nod, as if he’d already read my thoughts.
“I smell them too,” he murmured. “I think they’re guests.”
I sucked in a sharp breath. “She invited rogues to this party?” I asked, my heart pounding.
Why would Lila invite rogues? They weren’t part of our pack and had no say in whether she became Luna. On top of that, they were dangerous and unpredictable.
“It’s neutral territory,” Gavin reminded me. “They’re allowed here.”
“Yeah, but why invite them in the first place? And how does she even know them?” I pressed. “The bouncer isn’t letting anyone in unless their name is on the list. She would’ve had to personally invite every one of them.”
“The Blackwell family was in hiding for a long time,” he said. “It’s hard to say who they crossed paths with while they were gone.”
“I’m definitely going to need a drink,” Irene muttered, her eyes glued to her phone.
She looked distant, and my chest tightened. I knew that look. She was waiting for a message—probably from Chuck. She still didn’t know we had him detained at the Silver Crescent packhouse, being interrogated by Beta Taylor.
She didn’t want us to know she’d been in contact with him, but we already did. I wanted to say something, to confront her, but I stopped myself. This wasn’t the time. Lila’s plans mattered more right now than Irene’s complicated feelings.
“I could use one too,” Nan admitted. “Is there a bar around here?”
“There is,” Gavin said. “Around the corner.”
We finally reached a small, empty table. My back was aching from all the walking and standing, and I let out a breath of relief as soon as I sat down. I was more than six months pregnant, yet I already looked ready to give birth any day now.
Eliza had warned me that I’d start showing faster because of how powerful this baby was. This pregnancy was anything but normal—but I hadn’t expected to be wobbling around this early.
Gavin helped me settle into the chair.
“I’ll grab drinks,” he said, eyeing all of us. “You ladies stay seated and don’t talk to anyone.”
We nodded. He leaned down and brushed his lips against mine, and it took every ounce of self-control not to pull him back and deepen the kiss.
I loved kissing him. Every time, he lit a fire under my skin.
Irene finally set her phone down and leaned back. She looked exhausted, and I knew she hadn’t slept much.
“Are you okay?” I asked gently.
“Yeah,” she said. “I just want this over with. Can we find Lila, shut down whatever crap she’s pulling, and go home?”
She didn’t sound like herself—irritated, on edge. My chest tightened again.
“We’re working on it,” I assured her. “Just give it a little time.”
She rolled her eyes like a moody teenager, picked her phone back up, and started typing. I exchanged a worried glance with Nan. She shrugged slightly in return—neither of us knew what was really going on in Irene’s head.
Gavin came back with drinks. He handed Irene and Nan glasses of wine, poured himself a whiskey, and gave me a glass of water. I smiled my thanks and took a sip, the cool liquid soothing my dry throat.
“I need the bathroom,” Irene said suddenly, standing up.
Gavin looked ready to object to her going alone, but I touched his arm.
“I’ll go with you,” I said, then glanced at Nan. “You coming?”
She nodded, and we headed through the crowd until we found the bathrooms at the end of a long hallway.
Irene disappeared into a stall. I leaned against the counter while Nan stood beside me, adjusting her hair and makeup.
“So,” Nan asked, catching my eye in the mirror, “what’s the plan?”
“I don’t think we really have one,” I admitted. “We’re just waiting for Lila to make a move.”
Nan raised an eyebrow. “What kind of move do you think she’s going to make at a party?”
