Seducing My Ex’s Father In Law Chapter 888
“Hmm?”
I narrowed my eyes at him.
“We need you focused and alert. We don’t know what kind of trouble we’re walking into this morning, and if your head isn’t fully in it, that puts you—and your teammates—at risk. Can we count on you, or do you need to tag out?”
Erik held my gaze, and I watched his resolve finally crack.
“I’m worried this won’t work,” he admitted. “That we’ll get Chuck and bring him back to the Silver Crescent pack… and still won’t be able to break the curse.”
“I know you’re scared, Erik,” I said gently. “But you need to know this—I’m not stopping until Irene is okay. We’re not giving up. Not ever. And one day, you will have your mate.”
He was quiet for a moment, clearly wrestling with something more.
“What if she doesn’t want me even after the curse is broken?” he asked softly. “I’ve been giving her space because I know I scared her. She wants nothing to do with me. But what if she still wants nothing to do with me even after she’s free from Chuck’s curse?”
That was it. The real fear.
“That’s a bridge we’ll cross when we get there,” I said firmly. “Right now, the priority is breaking the curse. It’s hurting her. I need you focused, Erik. Can you do that?”
He nodded. “Yes. I can be focused.”
Gavin slid my chair closer to his and nodded toward the tray of food he’d brought.
“Eat,” he ordered.
I smiled.
“Yes, sir.”
Once breakfast was finished, we met with Alpha Jeremy one last time. Some of the gammas had already loaded our belongings onto the plane since we weren’t planning to stay much longer.
Alpha Jeremy gave us the coordinates of Chuck’s post, and we didn’t waste a second. The warriors patrolling the area had already been alerted about Gavin’s sudden visit, so they didn’t interfere as we approached.
Chuck’s eyes narrowed the moment he spotted us.
“What are you doing here?” he demanded, his brows drawing together.
“We’re here to bring you back to our territory,” Gavin said coolly. “We’ll give you the chance to come willingly.”
“And why would I do that?”
“Because you put a curse on my daughter,” Gavin replied, his gaze turning lethal. “And we’re going to break it. Now. We can do this the easy way or the hard way. Your choice.”
Chuck laughed.
“There’s no curse on Irene,” he said, shaking his head. “I love her, and she loves me. I’m going to ask her to marry me. She’s my fated mate. There’s no way I’m doing whatever it is you think I’ve done.”
The smug tilt of his lips—and the glint in his eyes—made my blood boil. He knew exactly what he’d done. He was enjoying this.
“You say she’s your fated mate,” I shot back before I could stop myself, “so why are you sleeping with another woman?”
His eyes narrowed to slits as he glared at me.
“It was just a misunderstanding,” he said smoothly. “We cleared it up the other day. She knows how I feel about her, and she’s ready to run away with me if that’s what it takes.”
The confidence in his voice, the way he spoke like he’d already won, made my anger flare.
“What are you really after, Chuck?” I demanded. “Why target Irene for your sick little games?”
The corner of his mouth lifted as he leaned closer, his gaze locked on mine.
“Because she’s easy.”
I barely saw Erik move.
One second he was beside me—the next, he was in front of me, his fist slamming into Chuck’s face. I gasped as I stumbled backward, straight into Gavin’s arms as he wrapped them around me protectively.
Chuck hit the ground hard, blood pouring from his broken nose.
